Replaced my battery tonight and after tightening the hold down bolt the socket pulled off the extension when I pulled it out. Sounded like it fell down into the fender liner.
Anyone had this happen and how hard is going to be to retrieve this socket ?
Just forget about it. Is it really worth ripping some of the car apart to maybe get it back? I did the same thing once, except it was on top of an intake manifold and the socket dropped into a black abyss. I couldn't physically find or see the socket so I just gave up and forgot about it.
I set one down the other day when I had the trunk on our vert open. Mr. Bumbles hit it and it went down the drain hole. Laid underneath and tapped and tapped. Along with dirt, rocks and leaves out popped a socket!

Yes I have, TWICE.....take the lower rear fenderwell screw out and tap the inner fenderwell liner...this will dislodge the socket and it will come rolling out..at least it did both times I used this method, then be sure to re-install the lower fender liner screw. Good Luck!
Must be the "10mm blues", Jim. I lost a 10mm socket in another car changing a battery, too. I looked around, hoped for it to fall out on the garage floor, etc. Never did. Sold the car with "it" still in there---somewhere. Oh well. And to all the rest: thanks for reminding me that I need to get another 10mm socket. I've been using wrenches and a visegrip on occasion---not good substitutes!

Yep Bill, time to go get another socket. I'm going to take out the lower screws and se if it comes out. Drove it for the first time this year yesterday and no noise from a socket rolling around.
