Default 2005 center console replacements.

So like a lot of other posts I've read through, a lot of people don't like the "silver" center console.

Mine's a 2005 Z51 package.....and I'm looking to upgrade it to something like plain black.....also looking for a replacement for the silver Instrument Center (if that's what I it's called) to be black as well.

I haven't paid particular attention....but the HUD control bezel may be silver as well....So I would want to change that.

Going to be replacing a defective HUD soon....and figured I could do everything and make a day of it.

After that, I only need to address some of the buttons in the car that the paint has chipped off of.

Any pointers for places you guys are getting this stuff that won't break the bank? I've seen some slick setups on here, but my car isn't even in that league.

Thanks!

Take the center console and the gauge surround out and paint them.

The silver on mine was stained pretty bad so I painted them body color. I will probably do it again with flat black or something.

Speaking from someone who has 1) painted then 2) wrapped in a carbon fiber fabric to now 3) wrap in leather....I recommend #3 if you have some skills in that type of thing.

Think it was only about 100 bucks and got yellow stitching as an accent.

Although mine wasn't stained, I didn't care for the silver, so I had a good friend paint my center my center console bezel the body color and I wrapped my interior door button bezels. Still deciding on what I want to do with DIC & HUD button bezels; thinking of either painting them black or wrapping them, don't want to use any more body color on the interior.

I also have an '05 and my center console and surround bezel was scratched up by the previous (original) owner. I went with the carbon fiber look from an '08, very subtle and yet classy, I didn't want anything too obnoxious. I purchased mine probably 6-7 years ago from TKO Performance (used to be a Forum member, not sure if he still is) here on Long Island. I had them (Ed, the owner) install the 2 pieces, he did a good job and they've held up very well. I did have to give him the painted pieces in exchange...I can't remember the price but it was fairly reasonable. I don't have a picture but if you like I can take one and post it...good luck!

One of the best mod for personalization there is.

But...a question.

My door release buttons are the OEM trim silver with black dots.
I'd like to wrap my console tombstone in that finish.
Any know if that wrap is a match and available?

Thanks for all the replys. There are some nice setups in here.

I'm leaning towards replacing with an 08 if everything fits.....but also painting as I could knock out the DIC and HUD pieces at the same time.

Do you guys know of any "How-To's" write-ups on here for painting these? I'm really good at following others instructions.....but didn't know if this is "rattle can" paint or something entirely different.

I will admit the leather wrap intrigues me, but I have no experience in that sort of stuff and would possibly screw it up!

I'm sure a good job can be done using rattle cans, but mine was done by a friend who paints cars. I asked him the procedures he used to pas on to another friend, some of which apply regardless of paint method.

1. Washed with soapy water, rinsed well, dried and let sit over night to remove any detailers, oils and other possible contaminates.
2. Sanded and primed (2 coats of primer)
3. Applied 4 coats of paint, followed by 3 coats clear.

When I replaced my HUD I wrapped the console in CarbonFiber look wrap. I painted the bezels and the cup holder lid with a rubber type flexible paint. You can to all of this for about $50 (not including the shift ****).

Since this picture I changed to a 2012 wheel and wrapped the door bezels in CF wrap.

That looks very nice and elegant. Was the wrap from a vendor here?

I’d just replace it with a factory carbon and be done with it.

I don't remember exactly, but if memory serves it was 3M DiNoc that I bought from Amazon.

Practice on some small pieces and realize wrapping is a lot harder than it looks. I wrapped my console twice, to get this look.
