Default TPMS Question

Can anybody tell me what the life expectancy of our TPMS sensors are. I've got a 2011 and it will need tires soon. The tire shops are telling me I don't need to change them yet? I don't want to install new tires and have to replace the sensors in a year or two.
Thanks
Jim

As with anything, it varies. Mine are original and almost 12 years old (almost 100K miles). Given that I haven't heard of any lasting much longer then this, I am planning on replacing them the next time I get new tires later this year

I replaced them on my 2007 a couple of months ago. One started to trip erroneous warnings in the summer of 2017 that checked out normal with an analog gauge. The OEM Goodyear tires were replaced in 2015 when the car was 8 years old with Michelin PSS and the tire store didn't recommend replacing them at the time and I regret that they weren't replaced since it would have been cheaper and more practical to do them at the same time.

I still have at least one that works (13 years). My first one went pretty early on, so there really is a wide range as to what can be expected.

The part is not expensive, so replace when needed (or anticipated) when the tires are off the rims, anyway.

FWIW, driving with a dead TPMsensor is not that big a deal, IMO. Just check the tire pressure regularly.

Mine has never blown codes or gone into limp mode or any such behavior.

I always get new ones when I buy tires. That's the best time to do it.

I have 2005, when last year I replaced all of mine, with 65,000 miles.

Don't waste your money.

The sensors were 11 years old and 87K miles and still working. I decided it was time for new ones last Spring when I purchased new tires.

I'm closing in on 11 years and 153K miles with OEM sensors. I'm going to wait until they die.

11 years and just put on a new set of tires. No issues so far. Left them as is and will change as needed!

Well even though some say to replace them when you change the tires there's enough feedback from guys that have not changed them for several years so I guess I'll save my money. Now if I could only make up my mind for runflats or non runflats?
Thanks for the feedback!
