Hello all, this is Linda once again.!!
I'm needing suggestions on what would be the best option for a back-up camera for my 2005 C6 Coupe. I've been looking on-line but it can be a bit overwhelming. I would prefer a camera that is built into the dash not to look as an add-on along with the radio, CD player, etc. I do not want to be taken advantage of by ads or salesmen claiming their products is "the best". So, once again I'm reaching out for advice. In one of my last post "GAS CAP INDICATOR LIGHT" that has been resolved. I would appreciate all the information available. Thanks so much!!

Hi Linda.
The OEM Nav radio does not have a video input for a BU camera.
After market units can be purchased that fit in place of the radio or Nav unit and look OEM.
There are many brands/models available,(Pioneer, Kenwood, etc.) depending on what you want. ie: GPS, etc.
I'm sure those that have added aftermarket units will chime in.
The Audio/Electronics section has lot's of info, and FAQ's on all your querries. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...lectronics-20/
Good luck
My advice is also to go with an aftermarket head unit and back up camera. I replaced my factory navigation unit with a Pioneer unit with navigation. It also gave me bluetooth streaming, apple carplay, android auto, usb, aux input, etc., etc.. In my opinion, an aftermarket head unit is basically a must have in a C6. It really brought my car up to date as far as the electronics are concerned.

Thanks so much. but, I know NOTHING about this feature only that I know I need it due to the fact that I would literally DIE if I backed into something or someone. This car is nothing like I have ever owned before. It makes me nervous when I drive it. But, I absolutely love this car. I would like all the bells and whistled that an upgrade would allow... Would you have and idea type, model, and cost for installation?

Could you tell me which you unit you purchased and if you did the install yourself or would it take a professional installation.
I went with the Pioneer NEX8200. Pioneer, Kenwood, and Alpine all have comparable units and you can't go wrong with any of them. What you want to look for is if you want capacitive touch screen vs resistive. Capacitive is much clearer and responsive and is comparable to the screen on your cell phone. It also handles sun glare better than resistive but also costs more. Also do you want built in navigation. I did, but most find it unnecessary to spend the extra money for it since you can use the navigation through your phone on your head unit if your unit has Apple CarPlay and/or Android Auto.
I did the install myself but it will take you most of a day if you want to tackle it yourself as a first timer. It's not that difficult but will take some research. But also because the job is not that complicated, I would also have no problem with a BestBuy or some other audio shop doing the install if you didn't feel comfortable doing it. One of the more difficult things is just running the wire for the backup camera to the back. Once again not complicated but it adds to the install time.
Here is a thread showing an install if you want to consider it.
Price wise, it will cost you anywhere from $600 to $1500 depending on what model you go with. The Pioneer 8200nex has been replaced by the 8400, but the good news is that the 8200 is available at a great price if you can find it. I see it on Amazon for $630 which is about $170 less than what I paid for mine.
Here is all the stuff I bought for installation. The Pac Audio harness/interface works with and/or without Bose systems. The installation gear is the same regardless of what brand head unit you buy. I got the head unit and all the installation gear from Amazon.
1- Pac Audio RP5-GM11 wiring harness with steering wheel controls
2- Metra 95-3304 double din face plate
3- Sirius XM SXV300v1 tuner (optional if you want Sirius XM)
4- Pyle PCNM38FRV back up camera (was only $17 but works great)
5- A pack of crimp style cap connectors 22/18 gauge and a crimp plier (since I didn't have one)

Check out Crutchfield.com for options. They have an extensive library of articles and videos that will give you info and ideas.

I can't thank you enough for all the info. This will probably be a project in the Fall..
I'd figure pretty much any double din these days has a video input. I'd probably pay to have it installed if you aren't too knowledgeable on electronics and as for the backup camera, I got a Esky EC180-19 for like 20 bucks along with a wireless video transmitter so I wouldn't have to run wire's all thru the car. Good luck!
I know you said you wanted a backup camera mainly to avoid literally dying if you backed into something or someone, however if you are going to go thru the trouble of installing a new HU with BU camera capabilities, many of those same head units will accept a second video input and you can install a front camera too . I think I get more good use out of that than the rear.
I can't count how many times I've bumped my splitter on a concrete parking stop, not realizing how much longer that front end is than what it seems from the cockpit. I put a secondary camera on my HU and with the touch of a button I can see either front or rear approach. LOVE IT !
You can't go wrong with Crutchfields and their advice! I have been a customer of theirs since the 1970's and have bought my car & home stereos as well as my last TV from them with never a regret!

I added a Pioneer AVH-2300NEX $295 Amazon + PAC- GM11 interface $75 crutchfield + faceplate adapter $8 Amazon + backup camera $39 Amazon. Total cost $418ish. The 2300NEX doesn’t have navigation, but does have apple/Android CarPlay, Bluetooth, USB port & inputs for 2 cameras (front & rear). I use Nav on my phone, so I didn’t see spending extra for a Nav unit.

I didn't know they made aftermarket cameras for both front and back. That will definitely be added. Where did you buy yours and what kind? Just asking a lot of questions before I make this investment. Thanks so much!!

How much was the Installation cost or did you DIY?
Off topic but anybody know if on those head units that accept the front and rear camera's can run both at the same time, like a split screen? Or is it only one at a time?

Crutchfield.com is great. I am a customer of theirs also. The only problem is that they don't always have the best prices especially when it comes to head units. When I was shopping for my head unit, it would of cost me about $200 more to get it and the install gear through Crutchfield.
When it comes to head units, I say splurge a little. Replacing the head unit is a one-time expense that you can enjoy the benefits of for years to come. The quality of the screen, the graphics, the responsiveness of the functions, load or start up times, etc. These are all important and improve with price point. Having a capacitive touch screen is a big bonus and worth the added expense also IMO. The difference in quality, graphics, and clarity of having a glass screen is instantly obvious. As is the way it responds to touch screen functions. Capacitive does add to the cost of the head unit and is usually found on the higher end models that include all the bells and whistles also, but worth it as a one-time expense IMO.
