Default c6 dash trunk button

on my C5 vert (2000) when I locked car with top down it disabled opening the trunk with the dash button. good idea. On my new to me C6 vert (2009) trunk can still be unlocked with the dash button no matter if the car is unlocked or locked. Is it just me ?? kinda makes locking the car completely useless if you want to secure something in the trunk.(and yes I had the fob waaaaayyyyy away from the car when I checked this.)

Does the alarm go off when you push the trunk release button? If not, then lock the doors with the power lock button (on the door) before you close the door.

OK Stingray 71 tried it your way.....still no change and the alarm does NOT go off opening the trunk either way. So it looks like the gas fill and trunk buttons are always hot no matter what condition the car is left in. Havent tried it with top up but that defeats the purpose if you have to raise it to deactivate the button.
Starting to miss the C5 a little more each day....

I'm relatively new to the C6 vert group.

At a cruise night recently the car locked itself automatically, now changed. I reached in to pop the trunk button and the alarm did go off. Looked like a nervous Nellie searching for the key fob.

Not sure if that helps.

If your alarm does not go off when you open the trunk as you've described, somethings wrong.

Alarm should also go off if you reach in a locked car and use the door release levers, and if you use the metal key to open the trunk.

Opening the gas door does not set off the alarm.

Oh yeah one more thing...(saw an old "Columbo" last nite)....
the trunk release button by license plate has never worked since I got the car-- so maybe bad switch can somehow cause the unlock with no alarm thing .... grasping right now.. but who knows how these friggin' gremlins can interact with all the electronic shiite in these cars now.

Here's an excellent report on how to clean/repair your rear trunk button. They all get dirty and it's an easy DIY.

Yes the trunk release and gas door buttons are always active regardless of how the car is shutdown/locked.

I don't think the rear button has anything to do with the alarm not working 'properly', but the car has some quirks.

You could also try the standard 're-boot the BCM trick' of briefly disconnecting the battery. This has been known to eliminate odd gremlins, just don't forget to re-index your windows.

Thanx Jockey for the diy on trunk button outside.
I'm just surprised since the C5 had a good idea to disengage the dash trunk unlock with the car locked that it didn't carry over to C6, but then again I shouldn't be surprised since good ideas never seem to carry forward..
I think my C4 vert also had the disengage thing but that was a long time ago and being another old guy, memory isn't too good either. So the best way to secure something with top down I guess is leave it under the seats or someplace in car out of sight. or just leave everything open and fob laying on the hood and hope for the best....

Something is wrong if the security system is armed and the alarm does not go off when the button for the trunk is pressed. Maybe you didn't wait 30 seconds for it to arm?
This is from the 2009 Owners Manual:

So after reading this thread, I went out to the garage to check this out for myself. I left the key fob away from the car in the room where it is out of range of the car. I reached into my 2011 Vert. and was able to pop open the refueling door but the trunk would not release. The alarm which had been set for hours did not sound. Tomorrow I will have to do the same for my 2013 427. Stay tuned.

OK since I started this thread, I'm seeing instance of no alarm and trunk opens, others with alarm going off and trunk opens(I think), and no alarm but trunk doesn't open. Could GM have changed what is supposed to happen on various years of C6's ??? Doesn't seem likely, but then with the elecronics maybe anythings possible. I'm going to try and see if there is a common outcome with top up, top down, waiting over 30 seconds, less than 30 etc. and see if I learn anything more- appreciate the feedback from all that chimed in. Thanx!!

Both my '05 Vert and my '09 Z06 would allow the trunk/hatch to be opened but would set the alarm off. On both, the floor releases and the key in the rear would also set the alarm off. The fuel door had no alarm. But then again, my Z06 would allow the doors to be unlocked via the inside button (only one I know of). Weird stuff happens occasionally to individual cars, evidently.

Default Sorry GM I was wrong

OK final check...top down, lockedcar with fob. took fob faaaarrrr away..
waited over 30 seconds...maybe 2-3 minutes. tried to open trunk with dash button....no go. wont open. No alarm going off but can't open trunk with dash button. doors unlock with floor levers, get alarm to go off.
So apparently my first attempt I didnt wait the 30 seconds+ b4 trying the dash button.

Thanx to who posted about the 30 seconds, and those who posted the alarm went off... either somethng wrong or GM changed the programming in various years or you have done some mods to the car. . All I know is my 09 vert works the same as my C5 00 vert as far as the dash button not unlocking the trunk after locking the car.

thanx again to all who posted... STW

I'm glad you brought this up because my trunk release button has NEVER worked on my 05 since I purchased it in 2011. I'll see if the cleaning bit works.

By the way.......how much does a new button cost? Maybe I'll call and see. Thanks, guys.

Sooo...the fob is in the other room, the car is locked, and you can walk up and open the door?

OK. I just called the dealer. A new trunk lid button (as shown in the video) would cost $27.48.

Since you are gonna pull the old one out anyway, clean it for free. If that does not work then spend some $$ if needed.
