I followed that instruction and was able to do it in the car without taking off the visor on one of my old C6's. Its important to have the same tools used because it is a pain in the butt.

I didn't realize how easy it is to swap the cover by using that nice little hook tool.
I ended up snapping off all the plastic rivets and removed from the visor the entire mirror assembly. The new lid with spring is in place and now I am trying to figure out how to reattach the mirror base without the rivets. Zip ties and epoxy may be part of the solution....

He makes it look really easy in this video, but its actually a pain. I wont like what he managed to do in 45 seconds took me about 2 hours of mostly cursing to myself in the car. LOL

Tell me about it the removal. I just gave it to my upholster who to all apart then gave the entire mirror assembly to my hydro dipper and he took it apart.
Finished reattaching the mirror assembly to the sunvisor (I previously popped all of the plastic posts rendering them unusable). I used 1/8 inch x 1/2 inch pop rivets. Given that I have a vert, using the zip tie and double sided tape approach did not sound like a long lasting fix. FYI, I have not blacked out the rivets in these pics yet so that they could be seen better.
The instructions will work. It is the same instruction found in the service manual.(page 23)
You can also remove it without using the screwdriver, but you have to over rotate the sun visor to get it unlocked from the base bezel. It's been awhile since I removed the sun visor, but I believe it is rotated outward for the driver side to remove. To reinstall, set the sun visor in the bezel and starting with the visor in the outward position, rotate it to the interior if the car until it snaps into place.
Good Luck
UPDATE: Broke the visor trying to replace it, will have the dealer do it since GM makes everything that way, so DIY cannot do it. Btw, NOT ONE THING about this process made sense.
