Transmission problems
05 auto had 20k 6 weeks ago and have put 10k on it so 30k now.
When you step on car at 25 it bangs back hard when down shifting. Also when in 4th going down the hwy 70mph step on it goes to 3rd then back to 4th then back to 3rd and stays through acceleration . Also leaking gear lube at top of rear end someplace.
What are my gremlins?
I'm pretty certain the car was never driven hard before I got it. I did a 8500 trip. If I drive the car normal the teams seems just fine.
The 05's have a very strong transmission. I would probably take it to a transmission shop and have them change the fluid and see if that helps. My 05 downshifts from 4th to 3rd gear with very little throttle pressure and I have not had any problems and mine has the Z-51 package with the 3:15 rear end gears. As far as the leaking I would keep an eye on it however it may be from a recent fluid change. I would think if you run it from a standing stop wide open and let it run through the gears and it doesn't downshift you should be ok. Wow, you put a lot of miles on in a small amount of time!
On the A4, 1-3 are strong, but 4th gear is not so strong isntead.
As for your problem, could be fluid and filter change that solves the problem, could be a clogged or faulty shifter solenoid, or could be the trans is going south isntead.
Also, you don't say if the trans has been tuned of not, since if tuned, could be a problem in the trans tuning as well.
As for the fix, most trans shops should be able to find the problem and resolve it, and with luck, a cheap fix without having to rebuild the entire trans isntead.
