Trans is not the problem, its the differential case that is the weak point of the drive line instead.

As for auto over manual.
Auto will be faster for strip type use, while manual is better for road course work instead.
Hence Auto will up shift a lot faster, but you can downshift a manual faster that the A6 trans isntead.

As for once you figure out if you need an auto or manual trans, the the trans can be built up to take more power, but again, your back to just how much HP and torque you can throw at the diff instead. Also, if you get into wheel hop, all bets are off since wheel hop can create well more toque to the Diff when the wheels bite during the hp, then the motor can throw at it isntead.

This is interesting. On the oil leak. Noticed I've developed a leak in the same place. Have any others found the same leak source on theirs, the filter loose? Will check it this weekend. '08 base LS3

I have clocked over 80K miles with an Edelbrock E-Force 1593 on my A6 and I've just had the transmission totally rebuilt at 136K, I suggest this thread has missed a very important component: the torque converter. My driving style is probably closer to a little old lady than many CF members. If you plan to regularly romp and stomp on an A6 with 600hp, you're going shorten its life. Get yourself a heavier duty torque converter. And a DeWitt double-thick radiator.

Your profile doesn't say where you live. If you're anywhere near NYC, I strongly recommend considering having Chuck Mosello of Corvettes of Westchester do your installation. Especially during the winter months when he's not hammered by fair weather customers.
