Nothing really special about a higher rev'ing motors, and its the trick F1 cars uses, hence over square wide pistons and short strokes.

The only downfall, is there is only so far you can get a mech valves to keep up with the higher RPMS, and on F1 engines, they use pneumatic valves to allow the motors to rev to 18K so the valves can keep up with it . Same with the GP motor cycle 4 stroke engines now that are reving that high as well.

The only downfall to a motor that is going to wind to 8K, is that engine life is greatly reduced from the high rev motor isntead. Also, LS motors do not have an adjustable timing cam like that on the C7 LT motors, so the cam is going to make power top end, at the expense of lower RPM power.

Funny part, even with the stock LS7, the engine is already choking/starving for air at 6.3K, since there is just not enough room under the hood for the needed intake size to allow the motor breath all the way to 7K.

So ls7 de-stroke with cam and still using the same LS7 intake manifold, the motor will rev to 8k, but on a dyno graph, you can bank that is actual loosing HP above the 6.5K mark isntead.

Hence a huge reason that on on the old motors that would rev to 8K, they got a tunnel ram so the motor could breath correctly at the higher RPMs.
