Funny thing happened while driving. After accelerating hard off a stoplight, I got an airbag light warning. I thought it was a simple seat connector issue, but after inspecting all connections and even getting a tech 2 emulator, I pulled a B0051 code.
Nothing deployed, seatbelts never got tight or anything, I guess it was the SDM going bad or something.

Looks like I will need a replacement SDM.
I’m reading where a battery disconnect for a couple minutes might reset it. Worth a try?
Yeah, I already knew it was a latched code, for fun I took a shot at disconnecting for 30 mins. No change, reader still says B0051, but all other SIR system codes pass so looks like new SDM is what I need. I'll have to check with a dealer for the cost of reprogramming a replacement. Swapping out the unit is easy enough.
I contemplated sending out the unit to be reprogrammed, but on second thought, the unit FAILED rather than a successful deployment so I'd rather not chance a reprogram only for the unit to fail again and actually successfully deploy the airbags on me during a hard stop or quick gear change.
