Default wind.shield replacement

Our C6 has 74,000 miles includining a drive from Portland, OR to Anchorage, Alaska.

Our wind shield has a major 1/4 inch chip/crack and has thousands of tiny pits—it needs to
be replaced.

Question: do the dealers do a good job replacing the windshield or do the glass shops
do a better job?

thanks

Glass shops....Stay away from the dealer unless you have a fat wallet....BTW: The dealer down here calls a glass shop to come in to do it.

The one thing that most installers miss is reconnecting the windshield washer tubing on the drivers side under the cowling. Two replacements, both installers missed reconnecting that tube.

The dealer will probably send it to the local glass shop anyway.

Safelite did an excellent job on my C7.

I only let safelite do mine and only in their shop no mobile for me. Most of the places in my area turned me away because they were afraid of the Corvette install. Safelite would not do a mobile install on my '13 Grand Sport . They have a facility within 5 miles of my home lucky me.

Hence you can get the windshield from them with the GM stick on the windshield still, or when they do over runs of them, would just polish the GM stick off the windshields to sell the same ones at a discount isntead.

As for C6 windshields, you have hud or no hud, and onstar or no onstar as the 4 choices, so make sure that your getting the correct windshield for the options in the car. Hence the labled above if for a none onstar car with Hud.

I would NEVER even think about sending my car to a dealer to replace ANY glass. They are just going to treat it like any other cheap car before they send it out to the cheapest glass shop they can find. I had mine replace by Safelite and the owner insisted I let him do it in his shop. He wanted it to sit inside for several hours before it was moved to make sure it sealed properly. That is a very expensive piece of glass and he didn't want to take any chances it would have to be done again. He did have a problem with which of 2 windshields was needed for my year so he just ordered both so he could do it as soon as it was brought in and not require a second trip to the shop.Your dealer won't care. In fact your dealer will probably just turn it in to insurance twice if it doesn't seal right because it was a wham-bam job the first time. And the cheaper windshields without HUD will still fit but just make it dimmer so which do you think you are going to get from a dealer who can mark it up to any price he wants? Insurance is going to pay for all of it with no deductible if you have any kind of good insurance.so take it to Safelite and get it done right the first time.

Why would you go to a dealer for a repair like that? They would just bring in a local glass shop.

That seems to be the consensus.
