So what kind of issues, who did yours, advise, did they come to your place or did you take it to their shop - any issues after the replacement?

Safelite did mine at my house. No issues at all.
I used them after reading a lot of positive reviews here.

Same for me, they came out to my house and were very neat. I will have to do it all over again in the spring, as the new windshield they put in did not even last one season due to a rock on the NYS Thruway.

How much was safelite? Did yours have head up display? I understand there is a coating on the inside of the glass for that.

If you are paying out of pocket it can be very expensive. IIRC, the retail for my HUD/Onstar windshield was over $1k. The HUD glass does have a coating sandwiched between layers of the glass, but there are plenty of people who have put a "regular" windshield in a HUD equipped car with little difference.

One of our members worked in that industry as I remember, also believe he stated that there was no difference in the windshields for HUD Maybe it was DCasole, I'll check with him

NFS , I heard my name mentioned ....... lol lol

You are right and wrong with my Quote

There is a difference in the Interlayer ( the plastic sandwiched between the glass ) of a HUD W/S .

Because most glass is curved where the image would be projected it could be distorted , This special HUD interlayer optically corrects the image . It really has nothing to do with brightness or any of the other hocus pocus you read about here on the forums and has everything to do with the sharpness of the image

You can read more about the HUD interlayer here
https://www.eastman.com/Brands/Safle...p-Display.aspx

Unlike traditional PVB interlayers that have a flat uniform surface, Saflex HUD interlayers are made by a proprietary process that creates nonparallel surfaces to create a windscreen that provides optical correction—resulting in the highest quality projected image in the market (see image below for illustration). Saflex HUD products delivers this high quality while also cutting wind noise in half. Saflex provides a variety of HUD products to suit any make and model’s unique image requirements:
  • Saflex HUD
  • Saflex QHUD (acoustic HUD)
  • Saflex VIEW ST- made specifically for complex windscreens to fix short/tall image distortion

But

The area where the image is projected in a C6 is relatively flat producing no distortion at all in the projected image .. and this fact has been proven over and over again by the many folks on this forum who took my advice and just installed a NON HUD windshield which includes myself , I am in the business and I had a NON HUD windshield in my C6

I have even gone as far as to tell some folks "if you want to meet with me here in Atlanta I will gladly put a NON HUD and a HUD w/s side by side and bet $1,000 that you would never be able to tell the difference between the two images that are being projected"

This also extends to the OEM verses OE fight that is always prevalent here in the forums . The OEM and the Aftermarket "AP Technoglass" brand are one in the same except the GM branded glass will cost $400 to $700 more .....just for the GM trademark in the " BUG"

Dave,
Thanks.
I am going to wait until the spring, maybe even until my inspection sticker is up to replace this one. This car seems to be a magnet for rocks. I do have to get the crack filled, but unfortunately driving season is coming to a close here in Jersey. Don't forget to let me know when you are going to be in the area, I owe you a pork roll sandwich and a beer.

Update. I just had my windshield replaced yesterday. C6. I have HUD. Used standard glass. Dave is right. Don't waste your money. HUD projection is perfect.

Safelite installed GM glass in my car but with the GM logo mostly erased off. The Tech showed me where it was but you could still see part of it.
