All part of the chip that you nurtured to prevent security lock out in the first place.

So if you need to have a XM module EEPROM cleared and put into a ready to marry state again, then these are the guys, and only charge around $35 (plus shipping) to do such.

So yes, you use a Tech II to remarry the radio itself for a Vin relearn, but not sure even GM ESC has a file that you VCI in SPS to reflash the XM module to EEprom clear it. This is the reason that the sir-gm1 was the easy way to pull such off, but since they are getting harder and harder to find, then maybe the used module and bench service to clear the EEPROM for a vin relearn is the new option instead. Maybe since you could still end up with something like an 05 module that still needs the xm to sirus update programming as well.

So on that note, would just give ISS a call, let them know that they need to solder back the cut leg (if you can't do it) and then will need to have the module EEprom cleared for a vin relearn.

I wish someone would have noted that in the 10-15 threads on this and GM trucks forms that was a problem after you cut the leg.

SO after talking to them (ISS) they charge 45 to do clear the radio locking, plus shipping. they will not re-soder the pin. They also test to make sure the module is working.

SO I have 2 options, try and re soder the pin I clipped in 1/2 and then send it to them and hope it passes the tested and then they clear it and then mail it back.
\
Or buy another used one make sure it works in Accessory mode, and then mail it to them and have them unlock it, and send it back and swap again.

Clipped pin is easy to resolder to the board. Just use a small gauge wire to solder to the clipped part of the pin and other side down to the board where you clipped the pin off the board.

push the XM button, and see if you hear the preview channel. or better yet a real channel as it stillhas a active subscription.

By works, he means that you will still need an active subscription to receiver XM, but with the clipped pin, it's not in a security lock out that you would need to send it off to be put in a remarry state. The down side, the clipped pin that keeps it from going into a lock state when put in another car, also cause memory problems once you turn the car off as well.

I haven't heard of that issue before, and I was asking how to check to see if XM is functional before purchasing. I know it's a small thing, but that would be a deal breaker for me. I don't live near a dealer and it would be a PITA. I texted the salesman this morning and had him check to see if it got the preview channel for me before I make a long drive for nothing. It does.

All I want to know is this. Does the XM work? I don't live near a dealer and I don't want to deal with a PITA like that. That would be a deal breaker for me, and I texted the salesman and had it checked this morning. I know it's a small thing, but that's not something that I want to deal with. The preview channel comes on. I'm good on that 2008. With a 2008 3LT, would it have bluetooth connectivity?

I simply want to know if the XM works without soldering something, sending something off, or other assorted PITA stuff. So, I had the salesman check to see if the preview channel comes up, and it does. I know that it is a small issue, but I don't want to deal with it. Another question...on a 2008 3LT, would it have bluetooth connectivity?

Blue tooth did not show up in the C6 until 2009, and blue tooth is part of the VICM module, not the XM or radio receiver.
So blue tooth can be used to pipe in phone conversations to the nav radio, but not music to the radio isntead.
As for piping in a Iphone to the nav radio, that was not until 2010 that the nav cars got a usb Port in the back of the center console to pipe the Iphone into the nav radio that way.

On older cars, you could blue tooth into the ON Star module for phone calls only, but that's a whole different thing.

As for an after market radios, the oem XM module will not work with it, and you need to get the XM module that will plug into the radio directly and for that radio instead.

Simply, there is no blue tooth function to the OEM XM module, and it works with the OEM radio as a GM lan bus type module only.

Thanks, Dano. I had to do some research to figure out what you were talking about. I am really not a tech guy in any way. It seems like I could simply have a good XM/Bluetooth system installed if not having bluetooth bothers me to the point that spending $500 on system would be worth it.

Oem XM module will add XM to the oem radio (will need to go into the radio with a tech II to turn on the XM function in the radio), and if you want blue tooth, that can be added to the OEM radio with an I simple USGM655 module for around $100 (it will program into the radio at the same time your using a Tech II to turn on the XM module function in the radio).
The xm module is an end of line device that will already have the connector there for it, while the I simple module comes with it own pigtail which plugs in between the factory radio connectors and module just gets placed at the back of the radio void area.

Also, the I simple device comes with a few different hard line connectors, so comes in handy to change out either the cigarette ligher plug in the ash tray area, or the center console plug to the USB connector instead.
As for the downfall of the Isimple device, it works off a XM band, so if you say where listening to the FM radio, would need to switch XM band for it to answer your phone blue toothed instead. Hence with current crop of after market radios, if it gets a blue tooth phone call coming in, the radio will switch over to the needed band to answer the phone on its own instead.

Just to endcap the thread. or my problems..

Scooped a 3rd XM module off ebay, had it drop shipped to ISS, they tested it and cleared old vin, and shipped it to me for 50 even. I plugged it in, and some channels work some done.. I assumed it was cause XM is having a promotional... so Called XM and had them swap my service once again to the new XM moduel and bam, all stations and memory is working. good to go.
