Thought I would share: Since I purchased my 2006 convertible in August, the trunk would not pop open every time. I changed the key fob battery, oiled the latches and put silicone on the rubber seal. No luck. I was getting ready to pay $20 for one of those trunk poppers on the internet. But before doing that, I went to Lowe's and walked up and down the aisles looking for some kind of spring. And voila, in the aluminum door section I found exactly what I wanted; a spring nut. I installed 2, one on each corner of the trunk for even pressure distribution. My convertible, maybe hatches too, has torx screws all around the edge. Removed 2 screws placed them down the middle of the springs through the holes in the base of the spring nuts and tightened them. Works great. Springs are not overly tense , just enough to pop the trunk. Best part, including tax, I paid $3.00 for a bag of 5 spring nuts. That is .60 cents for one versus $20.00.
Congrats on finding a simple and inexpensive solution. I have a power assisted opening latch for my coupe, and have had no issues for the past 9 years.
Nice job. You'll have to excuse my ignorance, but do verts mor have that already? All my couples have had something that pops the hatch up enough to open it from the factory.

Yes convertibles and coupes alike have an electric actuator. Over time, the actuator will get weak and fail to generate enough torque to release the trunk. Replacing the actuator is costly and time consuming. My trunk opened, but did not completely release from the latch. The springs give it the extra push it needs.
Nice solution!! My trunk lid used to just unlatch but it didn't pop up enough to get a finger under it to lift it up. I used a similar method to force it open a little farther. I basically copied the $20 spring for about 50 cents. New gas struts also helped.

The convertibles also have a power assisted actuator that pops up the hatch/trunk. Over time, the actuator fails to generate enough torque to pop the trunk and release it from the latching mechanism. My trunk opened, but not up far enough to get it past the latch.
I must be in the minority, but I don't really like the idea of cheep springs being so visible every time I open the hatch. The C6 already has the reputation of having a cheap interior.

Interesting. Bought our 06 vert this spring and immediately replaced the trunk struts. It opens, but just enough to get your fingers under the trunk lid. It still doesn't POP!
I have an o6 vert. Is it common for the trunk actuator to go out completely? I have replaced the fuse and relay, but the trunk still won’t open. I don’t even get a clicking sound when I push the button in the rear or on the key. Is there anything else I should try before replacing the actuator?
