Default Widening stock rims.

Widening factory rims-

Car is a 09 Z51. It will be street driven with likely 2-3 road race appearances a year.

I have been looking at aftermarket rims and I haven’t seen anything that really fits the bill. I can’t justify the price of a CCW and some of the aftermarket rims that I like are the wrong offsets and likely much heavier than a quality stock rim.

My car came from the factory with gunmetal rims which I think look pretty good and the colour seems somewhat rare on the C6’s.

I realize that the car came with 8.5’s and 10’s but I’d like to improve on this......

Everything points me to the directon of getting the factory rims widened. I have done a bit of reach and I know that Weldcraft widens the rims on the inside as I had them widen a set on my CTS-V.

Question is how wide can we go on a narrow body C6? I’ve read that 1 inch fits with ease but wondering if we can add say 1.5 inches to both front and rear. Having say a 10 inch rim up front and a 11.5 on the rear would look awesome and I would think greatly improve handling with a nice Michelin!

Thanks.

Why do you want wider rims?

What advantage will it give you?

Put a stickier tire on will do more for you than just putting wider, junk tires on the car... I see in your pic you have A/S on the car... not what I would call a "sporty" tire... Put something like an R888R on at stock size and you will have all the grip you can use and then some.

1-1/2 inches would have the wheels sticking out of the fenders on both front and rear. You'd be better off going with a wider tire than a wider wheel, and you'd save yourself a bundle.

Many track organizations will not allow weld repair/modified wheels on track.

Keep it simple. Buy a second set of wheels that fit the car and the tires you want to use for racing and change them for race days. What they look like will not improve the performance, but the correct tire for racing certainly will.

BTW, I find it strange that after 15 years and 10K+ posts on this forum, you still don't have a location or any current info in your profile.

Like a used set of Grand Sport wheels. Might want to pick up mudflaps at the same time...

That makes sense. Buying a set of Super Sport 4S’s.

Why is that? Weldcraft adds width to the inside of the rim.

I don’t think that A/S are “junk”. I bought the car a month ago and those were on the car. Buying a set of Michelin 4S’s for the car as everything I read is very positive for these tires.

I hadn't realized it only added it to the inside.

adding 1 1/2" in the rear will work fine depending on the tire you buy for it.don't know about the fronts though

I didnt call those tires junk, I called them not really a sporty tire... an A/S tire is not what I would ever put on a Vette, regardless of brand.

I see people all the time running Nitto Invo's...they are JUNK and they are cheap. Nobody will tell you they picked those tires because they were cheap...but thats the main reason lots of cars are running Invo's. They are HALF the price of anything decent.

I run R888R's on my vette's because they are a sticky tire. They dont last long(7-9k miles), but I dont drive my Corvettes much.

I was just thinking the State you live in would be helpful, in case someone sorta nearby had something you might need, wheels or tires, for instance to check if they'd fit. Like the drag tires/wheels in my garage that someone in AZ might need, but it'd be too far for the guy in FL to borrow for the weekend. Trying to be helpful, not nosy.

I might be talking to you in a few months about those tires and wheels....

April is the deadline for my move.

Invos are a good road trip and local DD tire that can handle rain well, unlike R888Rs. They cost more ($1050) than the set of Bridgestones ($930) and the Michelin A/S ($880) that I've also run, so it's not about price. I've been on road trips that would have destroyed your R888R's and/or worn them out before getting home. It's why there are tires made for different uses, like the Hoosiers and M&H that I use for racing that wouldn't last 2K miles on the street. Not everyone's needs match your's.

Decided to not widen the rims and purchase some Supersport 4S's. Give these a try.

LG Motorsports makes a set of wheels for the narrow body C6.
https://www.lgmotorsports.com/lgm-c6-gt-2-wheel.html

They are 1/2" wider front and back and will also clear bigger brakes more easily. Price is pretty reasonable as well.

Look for a used set of CCW's or HRE's in the parts for sale section. Much cheaper than new. That's what I did.

Good call going with wider tires versus widening the wheels. But, I went the CCW SP-16's and if I recall lost several lbs of unsprung weight. I honestly don't remember, but the SP-16's were the lightest and strongest wheel I have ever had. Got a ton of compliments on them The fronts were a 1/2" wider and the rears 1" wider.
