Never had a problem with brake dust on my GS, I replaced my pads with OE semi metallic several years ago. I wipe my car down every time I'm done driving it, I just don't park it. Probably why I don't get bent out of shape from brake dust. The easiest thing to do if it bothers you is switch to ceramic pads and loose some braking power.

Agree with everyone on the ceramics. If you're a daily type, non-competitive cruising type driver, switch over to ceramics. I also endorse Duralast Golds. I've put these pads on a few cars I've had with brake dust problems and the issue is corrected.

Duralast Golds, BTW, are a very good value. Priced very well, wear well and they do the job.

Check out Powerstop - I just got their entire kit for my C7 and there is ZERO brake dust...guys in the C7 section are raving about them: https://www.powerstop.com

On their website, look up your year of C6, and specific model - then go look on Amazon...

If you have chrome wheels you notice the dust much easier than other finishes. I notice a lot of dust on mine. Going with Hawk HPS in the spring. Used them previously on a 99 Z28 and really liked them. Less dust, much quieter, and easy on the rotors.

Dust is a sign of good brakes. Performance brakes generate lots of dust, it's just a part of the deal.

What you're experiencing is not abnormal, you can switch to other pads with a different performance to dust miz, but the dist isnt due to "cheap factory pads".

Duralast also has their GT line of pads, they're proper performance pads, offer a lifetime warranty, are available in one piece pads, and are about 50 bucks a set. Cant beat it.

For a high quality low dust performance street pad I would recommend the Carbotech 1521 100% made in the USA. Non-corrosive dust will not harm your wheels or paint. You can order on line at http://ampdautosport.com/brake-pads/corvette/ or call me at 216-780-8825. The part numbers you need are front CT731 and rear CT732 these will be listed under the C6 section. Use promo code z28 at check out to receive your forum discount.

The Carbotech Bobcat 1521™ is our high performance street compound that is our most successful compound. The Bobcat compound is known for its awesome release and modulation, along with unmatched rotor friendliness. Like our AX™ & XP™ line of compounds, Bobcat 1521™ is a Ceramic based friction material offering minimal rotor damage and non-corrosive dust. Bobcat 1521™ offers outstanding performance, even when cold, low dusting and low noise with an excellent initial bite. This compound’s virtually perfect linear torque production provides incredible braking force without ABS intervention. Bobcat 1521™ operating range starts out at ambient and goes up to 900°F. Bobcat 1521™ is suitable for ALL street cars, perfect for your tow vehicle, police cruiser. The Bobcat 1521™ compound has been found to last two-three times longer than OE pads you can purchase at a dealership or national retailer. That’s one of the beauties of Carbotech Ceramic brake compounds. Bobcat 1521™ is NOT recommended for any track use.

Hey I am overwhelmed with the help this forum gives out. Sorry it took so long to respond I had phone problems. I have a base corvette but it has the I think z51 brakes. I will try the aftermarket pads. Glad to see it is kinda normal to have the dust. Thanks guys.

For dust reduced pads, ceramics is where you want to look. Ceramics don't perform as well under sever conditions such as tracking the car. They work fine in every day traffic conditions.

If you're a daily driver kind of owner, you don't need to spend $150 on a set of pads ($150 each axle). You'll get the same performance and mileage with pads recommended here like the Duralast golds (about $50 per axle). You can spend an extra $100 each axle if you just like spending money. It's much like the ATI harmonic balancers that some insist on putting on, at $500. Outside a full race engine, there are HBs out there that will last forever on a street car for $200.

My OEM brake pads were horrible with brake dust and I couldn't stand the brake squeal. I've tried every trick here on the forum and nothing worked until I changed them out for AutoZone Duralast Gold Ceramic padlets, under $120 for all 4 corners. I've had them on since last spring and couldn't be happier for my street driving style, but I wouldn't use them on a track.

Look in the left side of the glove box for the RPO sticker. It will tell you what options the car came with, including Z51.

I'm using these as well. Had them on about 6 months. Same results.

I had the same complaint with my Z51 optioned base car. I switched to Hawks, a world of difference. They're not cheap, but work great with noticeably cleaner wheels! From what searching I did on you tube and this forum, dirty wheels just goes with the stock brakes.

Agree with Ed..... our '05 base in 25 miles of driving has embarrassing brake dust showing. Now has 32K miles and thinking of going to Autozone Gold or AC DELCO ceramic pads.

My 05 shows no brake dust. My girlfriend just bought a new 2018 Camaro with the brembro brakes and you can't drive to work and back without the rims being covered. I'm going to get the pads replaced ASAP.

Ceramic pads are the solution.

Would those pads work with my drilled rotors? Would I need to refurb or resurface my rotors before installing the 1521s?

I have a 2013 GS and I'm considering those pads to cut down on dust and stop the squealing. My most aggressive driving is spirited mountain twisties (tail of the dragon). Other than that I drive spiritedly around town. Thx.

10k. And I think it is a lightly used 10k. I've only had the car for a few months.
