I've had my C6 since July, great car but I have an issue. That ugly black thingy scrapes on driveways and speed bumps, which is no joke because I live in the speed bump capital of the country. Suffice it to say, it is shredded already and it needs to be replaced. My question is this; Is the under bumper spoiler really necessary? If it is, am I looking forward to replacing it every year or is there an alternative?
I've already done a search on the topic, so don't flame my sorry a**.
The air dam is actually three pieces. The center piece helps direct air up and onto the radiator to help with cooling. So I wouldn’t remove that one, but you can’t really see it anyway. Some people remove the side pieces for the reasons you just spoke of.
I've had mine removed for a couple years, headers, tune, etc, no heat issues what so ever even down here in AZ heat.
Like above post states, I only removed outer plastic left center rubber piece there.

I lowered my car, and hence I had those scraping like crazy all over the place. I trimmed off about 1/2" off the bottom of the side pieces, and the same on the center piece.
It still scrapes occasionally on those high speed bumps. I try to go diagonal over those to stop the scraping.
