Not having a heated garage has its drawbacks. Alternator and bracket looking pretty ugly. I’m thinking of removing it and the bracket, dissembling the alternator, then glass beading them and clear coating with high temp paint.

Thoughts and suggestions appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I took some gray paint, a small brush, and mine looks great!

A few winters ago my alt housing and bracket got all oxidized -- like whitish flecks growing on it. I cleaned it up that spring with Scotch-Brite (being careful around the vents) and now in the fall I just cover the housing with a thin coat of oil. Seems to keep it good.

But it was never really as bad as what you described. After I Scotch-Brite(d?) it, it looked almost brand-new.
