It's interesting you see it as a waste of time. Being a car enthusiast, I actually look forward to garage time.

Can't say I relish garage time anymore, but I can do it faster than going to the oil change palace and I know what's in it and it was done right.

Agreed, this is another great reason to do it yourself. In a normal, everyday car you don't care about, sure I can understand. Why pay someone to work on your baby? Best case scenario, its done the right way with care and you paid more than it would have been to do it yourself. Worst case, it was taken for a joy ride, improper handling, scratches to paint, messed up interior, wrong procedure, etc.

Oh yeah, it's so much nicer than crawling around under a car, plus you can really do a good inspection of the underside of your vehicles, I also use it for oil changes on my side by side and ATV's with a little modification to it.

Ok thanks, just saw someone say they simply turn their wheels to the right and jack up the the driver side up to get to the filter and plug. Haven't looked at the drain plug yet. Will probably be doing an oil change on both vehicles this weekend.

So, with just the front in raised will the oil drain properly, or does some oil remain in the pan?

I have been using Rhino Ramps for the last 14 years to do my oil and oil filter changes. Very easy as you just drive up them.

I changed mine last friday. Why not buy a low profile jack from Summit? Ramps are not for me. I have NEVER had a use for ramps. Jack up the driver's side in the "puck" location, put jack stand under engine cross member material with a block of wood, lower the jack on the stand and keep the jack there as well. Drain and change the filter.

How often do you change your oil and filter or how long in % do you let the oil monitor go before you change the oil and filter?

Seems like some of you drain your oil without having the car level. No concerns about getting the last of the old oil out?
I have no idea if this is a big deal or not but I always drain my oil with my cars level. Same with every dealer, small shop or oil change facility that I have ever seen.

There's some advantage to living in the woods, Tony.

Cuz the dirt slopes down from my barn floor, when my car is on the ramps as below, it is level.

If they drain it every 3K miles, it doesn't matter if they don't get every bit out....they do it so often, it never gets old...

Well I read on the trusty forum, you should change your oil minimum once a year. It has been a year already. Oil was most likely good . I change it on my buick when the sensor tells me to. I read that the oil life monitoring by GM is legit.

I changed mine once a year since it wasn't a daily driver. But now it is. So I will go by the oil life monitor.
