Default Suspension cluncking noise??

I have a 08 z51 with an odd noise coming from the rear of the car. Only happens when I hit even minor bumps. With the car off I can push down on the rear corner and bounce the car to even make the sound. I've jacked the car up and pulled back and fourth on the sway bar and it doesn't seem to be loose or worn. I'm just curious if it could still be the end links or would it be shocks? This is very aggravating. Thanks!

Have you checked the axle nuts?

I just changed the sway bar links on my '05 Z51 and it eliminated all suspension noise. My old links were not falling apart but it was very easy to move them around after I removed them. I replaced them with Moog greasable links that I got from Rockauto. You might try disconnecting one of yours and seeing how easily the studs move around in the sockets.

I haven't tried the axle nut? I will check that as well.

I'll give that a try on the sway bar end links and check them. It's very possible it's that, the car does have 90000 miles. That also makes me think it's shocks a s well.

Wouldn't the axle nut make a noise side to side?

My car is '05 and has 51K miles, pretty sure my sway links were original. I didn't mention axle nuts but I also recently changed them, the passenger side was loose. The noise I was getting from the axle nut was a "clicking" when I would release the clutch in 1st or reverse and the new nuts did eliminate that noise. The nuts cost about $6.50 from a local GM dealer.

I'd be inclined to suspect the end links first, axle nuts second, and shocks third.... You are on the right track! Please let us know what you ultimately find.

Ok thanks for the information! I'm going to try changing both the end links and axle nuts next weekend. Hopefully that fixes the issue.

I had a similar noise and found it to be the adjusters binding, a squirt of WD was the quick fix.

I agree, 28k on my 05 and factory end links were shot, no resistance at all.

Mine was either in reverse or coming to a stop, straight line.

You're right, it was more of a click for me too. Probably not his issue but might as well be taken care of.

So replaced the end links and still have the noise. I'm thinking ball joints maybe? Anyone ever had that issue.

When you said you pushed down on the fender, it can only mean one thing, shocks. Not

Default Sway bar links.

When lowering C7 the stock sway bar links undergo too much stress and wear out. They are not designed to be at alternative ride heights by more than .5”. Adjustable sway bar links are needed. It is Very important to install the sway bar links with 0 preload and they must slide right in with no stress on either joint at ride height. Again, at ride height not with the car jacked up. You will not get the right adjustment with the suspension dissembled or relieved of stress not with pressure relieved bottom control arm.

Question, when you or who ever replaced the end links did you apply adjustable end links? If so, was the vehicle at ride height when you determined the length of the link?

Nine out of ten times it is the sway bar end links. While you are in there replace the axle nuts while you are at it. It would be a good idea to check all the nuts and bolts making sure they are tight and nothing else is obvious.

100 percent transverse spring and or bushings. You can’t buy just the bushings. You need the spring and bushings don’t buy an expensive tool to remove, just take your time and do it slowly and have numerous jack stands and quick jack available for the job.

You are way over due for shocks!!...I have a 08 Z51 also and I had new shocks put on at 72000 miles and the right front rubber bushing was was gone.
