Looking on line to purchase Brake Pads, Rock Auto AC Delco ask for a Brake Code JL9, J55 and /or asking Heavy Duty Brakes. Where can I locate the information they ask for?
Codes are for a specific brake options.
F55's mag suspension (shocks), JL9 brakes also tho' not exactly sure what it constitutes. Larger disc?
Look on rear of glove box door for RPOs listing all options car was born with.
Carefully read codes, it'll tell you what you're driving brake-wise IF they were an option.
Assume stock if no brake RPO code.

My best guess, mind you.

Might I suggest looking at AutoZone's Gold ceramic padlets, there are numerous member that have used them including myself that are very satisfied with them.
Good luck

The base and the HD brakes (Z51/ F55 options) use the same pads. The rotors are a bit larger diameter and use brackets for caliper mounting to accommodate the larger rotors.

Those pads suck from what I've heard, stopping power over 170 mph might get you in trouble...I would never use pads from a parts store name.....You get what you pay for...I do high speed runs sometimes and i prefer pads that will perform as needed....

"From what I heard" Well maybe, but IMHO they do just fine with little brake dust also, so you'll forgive me if I don't run out and change mine out to one of the superior brands, have a great day

No use Jim, no use whatsoever I can attest personally that my car came to a very quick stop from 70mph with these said pads, no ****, in fact a couple of times

On the side of your glove box door you'll see a tag, it'll tell you on there.
Correct! what you are looking for is a large white sticker with a lot of numbers on it located on the inside of the glove compartment door. The numbers are the RPO (Regular Production Number) for al the major components, packages and such that your car has. the sticker is hard to read because the print is small and sometimes very lightly printed. for your 2006 you are looking for Z-51 which is a handling package with heavy duty brakes providing you do not have a Z-06 which is another issue.

AutoZone has duralast Gold (ceramic) and duralast Max brake pads (Severe Duty Metallic front, ceramic rear) -
I am thinking of replacing my OEM J55 brake pads due the squealing. The OEM J55 (Z51) pads wont stop squealing, tried various options, still squeal.

Two things a group of people can never agree on....tires, and brakes. Good hearing from you, Bobby.
C6 has enough brakes that a panic stop at street speeds is gonna work with most any pad. Get into some aggressive twisties or modest track and they may have shortcomings.
Just my opinion, but a car which is so capable should have more than the "minimum" capable of an occasional panic stop. My choice was Hawk HPS 5.0 for a balance of street and performance. Much less dust than factory (I think my stockers were the early version) and no noise as yet.
