I know I may get bashed here on the forum but I am not sure anyone else has had an awful experience with MacMulkin like I did. Talking to them about a 2011 Grand Sport and the way they treat and hold customers hostage is down right wrong. They will not allow you to look at a pre-owned until you commit to buy it. Next, in order to drive the car you must leave a "non-refundable deposit". Next, if you do drive and like the car it must be paid for that day and not the day of delivery. They basically said "it's springtime and this is how we do business". I am sure many people have had awesome experiences with them but thought it was important to share my experience. Nonetheless, I will not be buying a car from them ever.
They may be the "go-to' dealership for new Vettes but not for used and certainly not if you're trading in. My wife and I went in to trade our C5 and buy a nice C6, what a horrible experience, we walked out and will not go back for car purchases. We have used them for service on our C6, they've done an okay job.
We traded and purchased the C6 from Corvette Mike's of New England in Carver MA. No comparison to McMulkin, they are a pleasure to do business with.
Bought my 2013 GS there. I had a 2012 base to trade in. I told Tommy JR over the phone how many miles it had, and the condition and what options. He said if it is what you say it is I can give you x amount of dollars for it on trade and I remember it being fair. So I said ok write the new car up with the trade and send me the paperwork. I said you want a deposit, he said no, your word is good enough. He Fed Exd the paperwork overnight with return shipping, did the loan @1.87% and I drove there with my trade in three days later. I met Tommy, he asked if my trade was here, I said I parked it out back and he said good enough. Nobody ever looked at it or confirmed it was my car. I signed the paperwork and drove home with my new GS.
...
Then I flew Delta back to the US (14 hour flight) with a final destination of the Nashua airport. They picked me up at the airport and took me to a local hotel. Then picked me up the next morning and to the dealership. Within an hour of arriving at the dealership, I was on the road to Florida.
there are so many deals on C6 'vettes that it's a waste of time spending a single minute with a jackass sales outfit.
Just check the 'net and find what you want.
I think my brother got his new C7 there, heck of deal. Of course now he has a C7 with an automatic transmission, not the dealers fault but now my brother has to deal with it. Glad I have a C6 with a stick and saved $30k and only drove a couple hours up the road to get it.
ANY car dealer that does not allow you to drive a car, to see if you like it, is a complete JOKE!!! As a matter of fact, I have never heard of such stupidity until today.
I guess they treat new car buyers different than used car buyers. When I bought my 2013 from Tommy I couldn't have asked for a smoother transaction. Tommy handled everything and when I picked the Vette up at the Museum it was perfect. Just the way I ordered it.

I can 2nd this. I bought a new '09 Z06 from Tommy at MacMulkin and it was probably the best car buying experience I've ever had. Got $12,000 off MSRP at the time too!
I won't ever buy from MacMulkin again. I ordered a 2018 through them and put my $2K required deposit down in August 2017. After several months had passed due to the factory renovation closure my order was finally picked up by GM in the Fall with their "sweep" and thus became non-refundable according to MacMulkin. Within 12 hours after I got notification of this occurring from MacMulkin, I saw on this forum that GM announced that they would be introducing the 2019 models starting an unprecedented 6 months earlier in January 2019 instead of June 2019. As a result, the timing would be such that my 2018 MY would be delivered around the time that a 2019 was being produced. Thus the bottom-line was that I had just paid 2018 "prime time" pricing for a car that would be significantly more discounted at the time it was delivered because it had just become last year's model. I asked MacMulkin if I could switch my deposit to a 2019 and was denied. They said I would have to lose my entire $2K and make another $2K deposit and this is the core of my dislike for them. There was nothing odd in my order and they could easily have put it on their lot to sell to someone else because 2018s were not widely available due to the three month factory closure. They had ordered over 100 2018s for their inventory already and one more would not have created a financial burden.
Although they denied it, I have hard time believing that MacMulkin, which is one of the highest volume Corvette dealerships in the world, did not have some insight into what GM model years plans were or when GM would do the order sweep. IMO, GM should have made the announcement of the early 2019 MY introduction before they conducted their 2018 order sweep to enable customers like me with long standing orders to make a decision on whether to order the 2019 instead of the 2018 or MacMulkin should have been willing to further discount the car to reflect that it was a model year older. I complained to GM and months later they eventually recognized that I had been inadvertently been screwed by their early model year transition and sent me a coupon for $500 off a GM accessory. But MacMulkin offered me nothing but an attitude of "too bad, so sad".
Obviously there are still "old school, its now or never, will you buy today" dealers operating and using tactics from the past. I suppose in some areas that business model works or it would not be practiced. Dad is a Mercedes enthusiast and you would not expect to be treated in a poor manner when at a Benz dealership, yet Penske does just that with their high end dealerships. Terrible experience at one of their Benz stores in the Cleveland area. Tried to avoid disclosing damage on a car we where looking at and played the hard sell game. I refuse to buy or consider anything under the Penske umbrella.
We have bought cars from two other Benz dealers in the western PA, NE Ohio area and have been treated far better. I worked a deal for him last week on a unicorn he has been trying to find for several years. Certified 15' SLK55 AMG Designo w/ P30 package at a Benz dealer several states away. These cars sell fast and are very rare when compared to Corvettes. Probably paid more than what we would have in a face to face deal but he wanted THIS car and it should be shipping this week. So far a very pleasurable experience. Not to mention the Mercedes depreciation makes these a bargain IMO.
Lots of Corvettes out there and lots of Chevy dealers. No reason to be treated poorly by any of them.

Exactly. Picked out a NEW 2013 GS on their website. Did entire purchase and financing with Tommy, Jr. over phone and through FedEx. Flew to Boston a week later, did a day of sight seeing, then they picked me up. Drove to their place (which was immaculate,). Car was absolutely perfect and ready to go. Signed a few papers, turned on the OnStar and was out of there in 30 mins. Drove home to Mayland with their temporary tags. Best NEW car purchase ever and the nicest people too.
Sorry to read the USED car experience is not as good.
The accusations of this thread are completely false. We do not require non-refundable deposits prior to viewing a car. That makes ZERO SENSE.
The customer was asked to leave a non-refundable deposit AFTER they view the vehicle, agree upon the numbers, drive the vehicle and decide to move forward with the purchase. NOT BEFORE.

Don't think so. I can provide the correspondence if you would like to see it. I can PM it to you so it's not on the public forum
Never heard of a dealership not letting you look at a car before you buy it...
What I have heard (and assume happened here) is a request for some sort of acommitment, even just a verbal non binding I want this car, to HOLD a car for a certain amount of time so a non local buyer who is canvassing the whole country can come in to look at it. As a you ger guy, I had many dealers not want to let me test drive vettes, which i felt was overall fair because most guys my age couldnt affordthem, or control them, and would wreck them and be like "I dont think this is the car for me".
I find it hard to believe the story here, I suspect there is more to it than what we are being told so far.
This kind of post makes MacMulkin Chevrolet look bad. I would look into this thread closely & contact the OP to make things right if possible....lots of potential Corvette buyers reading this stuff
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
