Most issues come from the cheap plastic grommets that connect the cable to the transmission and to the shifter. Check those first. The transmission is accessible with the car on a lift or even up on jack stands. The shifter requires the center console to be removed. There search engine on the forum is that that user friendly. I would do a google search for C6 Corvette automatic shifter cable replacement.
I replaced my Shifter cable from underneath, drop the section of exhaust, remove 36 small bolts securing torque tube cover, remove cable from shifter and from transmission, install new cable, Cable replacement was less than 45 minuets
