I have an 05 with the LS2 with 44k on the odometer. I have had the car for about 10 months and have been a member of this forum for about 3 months. I enjoy reading the threads but some things scare me. I read about the
harmonic balancer and its wobble so I went to look at mine and sure enough it has a clearly visible wooble. Two questions for now, 1 ,do I need to stop driving the car immediately and 2, a rough idea on what I can expect
to pay for an independent shop to make the repair. Thanks to all who respond and try not to scare me! LOL.
You can keep driving the car if it has a slight wooble as long as it's not throwing the belt off.
If and when it gets very bad, the worst that can happen is it separates so much as to either move rearward enough to chew up the front timing chain cover, or it moves so far foreward that it starts chewing up the steering rack.
But, again, it won't hurt a thing with just a slight wooble.
As far as cost for labor ... I had an independent shop charge me $550 in labor (your results may vary)

Thank you for the quick response. Am I correct in assuming the wooble will get worse over time? I know you have know way of knowing but how quickly can things go south? I've been reading about people changing the hydraulic clutch fluid, do I need to do this? I used to work on my own cars but my age, new technology and tight engine bays have made it difficult for me so it's pay pay pay! Again, Thanks!
From: Denton, TX My goal in life is to be as good of a person that my dog already thinks I am.
I had a PowerBond harmonic balancer installed a couple of months ago on my ‘08 at a local shop. Parts, labor and alignment was just under $600. Don’t go to a dealer, the Chevy dealer quoted me over $1,700 and they wanted to use the OEM part that will fail again. It’s a pretty labor intensive job and they drop the steering assembly.

I had mine done for peace of mind. You know when it let’s go you’ll be someplace where there is no place near by for repair, on a weekend at night. Not to mention the additional damage it might do. It’s your car and your decision. I had my 11 year old shift cable replaced also before one of the ends let’s loose. Another common item that fails. Again I like the peace of mind. The shift cable and replacement cost me less than what a tow truck would charge. You can replace just the ends if you want. That’s what fails. The plastic ends are at any auto store under $10.

Thanks for all the responses, they are all helpful. I will get this done sometime in the next few weeks especially if it can be done in the $600 range. I won't go to a dealer, to many horror stories.
ATI balancer costly but one of the best. 365 for balancer from Summitt racing, 35 for arp crank bolt, 550 labor. GM wanted much much more for labor. Total cost around $1000.
Remember, wobble equals shake. Shake ac compressor or PS too much or too long, you may damage them. Always replace belts too. I had 19K on odo (2010) when my HB failed.
That's all cool...mine has 144,000 miles and zero issues other than radiator letting go at 143,000 mile..besides I'm still trying to figure out what a "WOOBLE" is.....
