Sun Visor Delete - solution for holes
The mirror unit on my driver's side sun visor came lose. I was going to repair it, but ultimately decided to delete the sun visors completely after the plastic bezel bases got damaged when I removed them. This DIY instructs how to cover the leftover holes. Although not factory-perfect, this solution is reasonable and of decent quality.
Tools
- NAPA Auto Parts: black, plastic, circular pins (skew 664766089159)
- Any hardware store: 3/4" rubber grommet (skew 045686081431 from The Home Depot, electrical department)
- Any hardware store: rectangular anti-skid pads for furniture
- Plastic container top
- Scissors
- T15 torx driver
Bezel Holes
- The grommet fits the car perfectly, but is too wide for the blanks. So, you need to build a lock that keeps the blanks in place.
- Trace the inside circle of the rubber grommet on a piece of paper; then, cut it out.
- Using this as a template, cut two circles out of the plastic container top.
- Compare these circles to the vertical pins on the blanks. Poke holes in the circles, such that the vertical pins go trough them tightly. Insert the vertical pins through the circles down to the 3rd ridge, not counting the cone at the top.
- Work the rubber grommets into the holes. The ridges perfectly grasp the edges of the roof underneath the headliner!
- Push the blanks with the makeshift locks into the grommets. Voila!!
- Uh oh! There are unsightly screw holes on the blanks!! If you have a coupe, remove the felt stickers (which act as scratch buffers for the sun visors) from the roof levers. Place these stickers over the screw holes of the blanks.

Driver's Side Center Hole
- Cut the vertical pin off a blank.
- Use the T15 torx screw from the sun visor clamp, and screw it all the way through the blank.
- Screw the blank and torx into the original screw hole.
- Tighten gently.
Passenger's Side Center Hole
- This hole is a bit bigger because (I think) there is an extra ambient light there on convertibles.
- Unfortunately, the blanks do not fully cover this hole.
- Cut the anti-skid felt to fit over the hole, and cover about 1/3 of it up from the left.
- Repeat the aforementioned process to install the blank and torx.
Enjoy!!

NAPA blanks.
3/4" rubber grommets from The Home Depot.
Makeshift locks cut out of plastic container top.
Makeshift locks installed on the blanks.
Wedge the rubber grommets in gently. They fit perfectly, locking in place around the ridges!
Bezel hole blanks installed... but screw holes remain.
Cover the screw holes by moving the felt stickers from the levers to the blanks (coupes only).
