C6 Shifter Issues
I have a question concerning my C6, 07, Z51 automatic with paddle shift. I am having issues shifting out of park. I can get it to work but working the shifter and pressing brake pedal or shutting off and restarting
I have had the brake switch changed about 2 months ago and had cable replaced by dealer about 1 1/2 years ago. Not a daily driver use only about 2500 miles a year. I think I have read about this issue before and any help would be appreciated

You have an issue with the shift lock release microswitch that has been known to fail, or the shifter does not push in the switch lever enough to energize the locking solenoid. The shift lock release microswitch energizes the solenoid which releases the shifter locking pawl. If this locking pawl does not disengage, then the car will not shift out of Park. Sometimes, the locking pawl only releases partially, which allows the shifter to shift out of Park hard, then will only go down to Drive, and not in S. Getting it back into park when this happens is a bear in itself.
Most of us with the 6 speed auto shifters simply tie back the locking Pawl, or at least tie a wire to it so it can be released if it doesn't happen electrically.
I've attached a PDF to show you what I'm talking about.
BTW- if you bring this issue up to a dealer, they will happily replace the whole shiter assembly, which in time will have the same issue.
