Default Repair or replace 2012 GS headlights?

I daily drive my car and after a really bad week of rain I've got condensation in one headlight that just won't go away (4 days later). The headlights are not in terrible shape but not pristine by any means. I like the look of the morimoto's but have seen several threads mentioning various issues. Looking on opinions for repair vs replace.

Ultimately it will be YOUR decision but I can state that when I wanted to get black headlights for mine originally, I bought another used set of OEM headlights that needed repair and I didn't care about the bezel color as they would be painted, then contacted Umnitza, forum vendor here, and had them do the work including new lenses. That was about 2 years ago, their pricing was very fair, and workmanship quality was great.

RLSebring is another forum vendor that does headlight repairs and modifications too, and I had another friend of mine use him to get some headlights for his after he had a collision to the front end of his car.

Personally, I am not a fan of the C7 style lights on a C6 and reading about the functionality issues, additional harnesses, etc. am kind of glad that I didn't decide to go that route.
IF the C7 style is what you decide to do, check out RadioFlyer, as he seems to have the lights, and figured out how to get them to function properly without additional issues to those who get them from him.

Best of luck in your decision...…………….

I would take a look under the rubber flap in the wheel well first, perhaps the rubber cover over the headlamp housing is loose. I cleaned mine and it fits tight now.

As for new lights I personally like the Morimoto's, but problems I've been reading about has turned me off for the cost. I got a pair of "switchback" LED's for turn signals and in itself that is quite an updated look, IMHO.

I installed new headlight lenses myself and was surprised how much newer the entire car looked. (I installed Umnitza lenses)

Sounds like I'm not the only one apprehensive about the c7 lights. I don't wan't the car down for long and rkj427's idea about buying used and then repairing might be the way to go for me. @rkj427 where did you end up getting your oem's? @Dutch08 thanks for the tip, I'll take a look at that are too. I did hit a few areas with an inch or two of water last week. In traffic, couldn't be avoided but, I cringed as I went through.

@pewter99 that's why I was leaning towards buying another set to have someone else repair them while I continue to drive on my current set. I am hoping to be able to remove old headlights and replace with another set in the same day or at least same weekend.

got one from Ebay and the other from AESAutoparts, also a forum vendor who occasionally runs "car part out" topics here, but also has a website...…….. both had fair pricing and much less than the cost of the C7 style even after all the work was completed.

Easily accomplished, and I can send you a pdf of what is involved to complete this task...………….. may even be able to search older topics here and find them as they have been posted numerous times......

good luck in your decision, and getting them done as you want...…….

What color is your car? I may be able to send a set then you send yours back. cost is as follows:

1250.00 for the set sent which includes disassembly, thorough cleaning, New non-Chinese lens, New thicker gaskets, Checkout and return shipping.

When I receive your headlights back in as complete condition as those shipped I will refund 500.00 if you stayed same color or 300.00 if you have changed to Black. This would out to the same price as if you had sent yours in to have refurbed,

I have what's considered to be the very best instructions on removing the headlights and doing the lens job if you are so inclined on my website www.c6c7vette.com

@techmonkey - we perform about 3-5 of these still every month. It is less than 3-5 a week when at the height.

We're about to lower our prices because we got special bulk pricing on this latest batch to $150 per set of lenses - shipping starting next week.
Labor for us is $250 for the grey Sealant, and $350 for the black sealant. It's usually a very quick turn around, we're in CA and can provide you with a 2 day shipping label there and back - so usually down time is 10 days maximum or 5 days if you time it right across a weekend for shipping.
I think you will find our lenses to be the only ones that are actually DOT approved by a certified DOT testing lab, not just a stamp that may or may not be backed by real testing. We can also perform a lot of other options for you:
1) Black out for you -
2) Demon Eyes
3) Angel eyes
4) LED strips

You can find all of those options (except black out) on this one build alone:

@info@umnitza.com Any chance you can do core exchanges? My corvette is my daily and I can't see bumming rides from my kids.

we don't do core exchanges normally because they are never the same quality of light, but we do have a set of headlights here now that are a single used set we got in trade from another customer who upgraded to the C6 Morimoto headlights.
We can probably work something out on you "renting" those for a day or 5.

@rkj427 I've been away for a few days but thanks for the info. I followed the instructions and the moisture is gone from the headlights and hasn't returned.
