I recently purchased an 08 M6 with about 81k on the clock from someone here on the forum. Had it for a week and drove all of about 30 miles and started hearing a noise while going on my first real drive. At first it felt as if there was a plug wire loose but I had just cleaned the engine bay so I knew that wasnt it. I pulled off the road the moment this happened and popped the hood. There was a tick/knock coming from what at first sounded like the valve cover. I almost thought it was a rocker but that wouldn't make sense. Oil pressure was not that high either, maybe 30psi at about 60mph. It would go higher if the rpms were increased. I turned the car off and let it cool. When I turned it back on there was now a squeak accompanying the knocking sound. Long and behold, I am stuck on my first real drive of my new car. Had it towed to a shop locally who does all LS performance work. Confirmed its spun a rod.
I now have a new to me Vette that I've seen for a week and sat in twice now sitting with with no engine in it. Previous owner has tried blaming everyone under the sun besides himself. I explained that the cars oil pressure had been suspiciously lower than avg from the day I got the car and he admits he had not been paying attention to what it had been when he sold it. My plan was to have the shop look at the car and tune it for 93 the very next weekend from taking it out on this drive anyway. That'll still be happening but with a large amount of additional unexpected repairs. I suspect foul play and am waiting for the shop to call me down after they inspect the fluids in the oil pan to see if any transmission fluid or extremely thick oil were added to mask it until the car got to me. Not sure if I even have an ask here...more so venting. There's more to this story after the issue that I can't speak on bc I'll be handling this legally from here on. Just really blows to give someone my hard earned money just to have them sell me a car with an engine that was a grenade with the pin already pulled.
If seller is like me, he'd have had you sign a Bill of Sale explicitly stating the car is "SOLD AS IS. NO WARRANTIES EXPLICIT OR IMPLIED". Sorry for your luck... I sold a 2001 Z06 many years ago and a lifter failed about 2 months later taking out the motor. Owner was local, didn't even call me, told me about it at the next local Cars & Coffee event. He knew what he was buying and went over the car at time of purchase. Chit happens unfortunately.
FWIW 30 psi oil hot at cruise isn't low.

Yes used cars are generally sold As is Where is, so due diligence on the seller is important...
I have purchased 5 cars and sold 4 through forums, all went well. All cars I bought had minor issues I am sure the PO's were not aware of and did not try to hide. One car I sold developed a nasty intermittent electrical issue immediately after I sold it and I could tell the buyer was a bit pizzed, but it was a 25yr old car and things happen.

He actually didn't. He sent me a bill of sale printed from his local dmv in which only he signed a couple days before the car switched hands. No where on it does it state as-is or no warranties. I live on the opposite side of the country and had a friend go pick the car up from the guy and give him money I wired to him. He made my friend sign a notice of sale just in case he got pulled over while driving the car home that had some as-is verbiage on it but I've never had anything addressed to me nor signed by me with that.

Seller is a dummy... but probably not worth your time. **** happens.... LS motors can have freak issues. 30 PSI hot oil at cruise is totally normal.
I am, "concerned" about third gear in the 2011 GS I bought last fall. When the car is cold it reaaaaaally likes to grind. I know it can be an issue with the 6060s and I do need to work on my shifting technique since it needs to be somewhat different than any of my previous cars, but I'm still a bit concerned. Nevertheless, it's my car now and I own whatever problems come up. I'm mentally preparing myself for needing to get a rebuilt trans.
Sorry to hear about your situtation. Could have happened to me for sure.

good luck!!
Appreciated. Yeah a few cosmetic things here or there are expected on a used car. This one had a lot more than I expected but I wasn't planning on making a fuss. Correct them myself and move on. I'm cool with some minor flaws of course. Explaining to my wife why I'm about to dump thousands more into a car that I just convinced her I needed to buy....ehhhhh no bueno

I used to be in the car business.... you bought a used car with no warranty... **** happens. It stinks, but it happens. If you want a new one with a warranty the GM store has those for sale.

Well depending on how high this bill goes. I may know where you can get a stage 4 RPM trans for it lol. I may be parting with some of the upgrades it came with. We'll see
Sorry to hear your story. Pretty heartbreaking for sure and I've been burned on used car sales myself but almost always was aware of the risks. One of the reasons I paid to get a warranty on my 2010 GS. For the 35K I spent on the car the peace of mind that I bought for another 2K seemed like a no-brainer. 5 years and 60,000 miles and I sleep well at night. But good luck, truly!

make sure the shift mechanism is aligned properly and change fluid to Redline? may help. good luck.

Sounds like you bought a car that was run hard. Things can and do go wrong more often on track cars. Price to pay if you want to play.
I'm pretty sure all used cars are sold as is with no warranty unless there is a written warranty to go with the sale.
Wishing you better luck with the repair.
I think that you are pretty much stuck with the repairs unless the previous owner offered a warranty of some kind or misrepresented the condition of the car in some way...good luck anyway

So the car broke down after your friend drove it coast to coast? Might have a chat with your friend, ask if he ever checked the oil.
Ultimate nightmare for anyone, total buzz-kill. Really sorry for you it happened.
Buying preowned is a gamble & always has been, horse is outa the barn thing.
Story's in the post post-mortem autopsy results, now.
Please post details.
Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.
W/a little luck and until damage is known, hit may be less than thought.

Did you inspect the car in person? I ask because you said you lived "on the opposite side of the country......"
