Did you inspect the car in person? I ask because you said you lived "on the opposite side of the country......"
I did not. Forum stalked every post they've made over the last several years. Asked for receipts and paperwork of work done. Got additional pics of items I suspected could be of issue. Even if I had flown cross country to check it out, there's little I'd be able to do regarding the rods besides possibly notice the oil pressure gauge or have him drain the oil to inspect it.
It's the risk of buying used. If you can't stomach the risk of buying a used car without a warranty, then don't buy it. Sorry it didn't work out but I'm not sure who is suppose to eat it here, other than the person who took the risk.
make sure the shift mechanism is aligned properly and change fluid to Redline? may help. good luck.
Yea, thanks. I changed the trans fluid (just with AC Delco) as soon as I bought it as a matter of course. Wound up getting the MGW shifter since people said it helped a bit, and it has.
Fingers crossed. I was driving it last night and it was cooperating, so I'll just keep focusing on technique for now!
good luck...I don't see where you have any legal recourse, you didn't go to buy in person the guy could say your friend beat on it after picking it up..I think you would be wasting your time in court, you bought it used and didn't go and actually look at/drive the car and from a private party...maybe with a dealer you would have some luck but......
You bought a car that looks like a put together beater. We all saw the add pop up and the extremely low price. Nowhere did that car look put together right or in good shape. It also had 81k miles. **** happens unfortunately. Terrible body panel fitment as seen on pics, harness bar installed which I assume this car wasn't just driven nicely. Engine bay is messy, etc. It has a lot of parts, you can recoup a lot of your parts back. I would have taken the car directly to a shop since the seller writes "Extreme race cam- Car is completely cammed out- was installed before I bought the car". Who knows how the springs are....

Some pics of the OP's car from the for sale thread. From some of the pics and the list of mods done to the car, it should be obvious that this car was driven hard.
