Default Don't drop your key fob

Leaving the gym yesterday, I dropped the fob and the two (cheap plastic) halves and circuit board came apart. Put them back together as I have many times changing batteries, got to the car and nothing. Took it apart several more times, checked the contacts etc and finally had Uber take me home to get the other fob. Drove to the dealer for a new one ($164) and will program that one today. Thinking about putting a small rubber band around the new one. I hope the C8 fobs are more durable.

I've dropped mine before over the years and never had an issue. Sounds like you just had some bad luck.

But in general, dont drop things. They tend to.break if you do.

Would the car not start with the fob in the contact slot in the glove box?

That would never happen with the 05-07 version fob. They are much more durable.

There was one of those, or something similar on one of my fobs when I bought the car. I put it on the backup fob and then got one of these for my primary fob:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XDFSPD4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XDFSPD4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and then attached one of these to it to put other keys on:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PKVQ3RB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PKVQ3RB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
.

Quality of the fob case didn't have great reviews but it turned out to look nice on mine and has held up well so far.

I dropped mine once from about 3 feet and not only did it break in half but two pieces broke off of it. It basically shattered. I think they just become brittle over time. It still worked though once I snapped it back together even though it's missing a couple chunks.

This is what I got, in black. Works great, fits great, and keeps the removable key from falling out too!

You can just buy a new case off of ebay and transfer your internal parts. $10 bucks

I have a black silicone/rubber cover on mine, saves if from breaking if I drop it. But, it doesn't protect if you leave it in your pocket and it goes through the washer and dryer! LOL

I ordered a new #1 FOB from the GM parts house, including shipping it was about $112.00. I found instructions here on the forum how to program it, took all of two minutes to do it.

You dropped key fob, it broke, how did you get into car? I got a OEM fob for my C6 from dealer on close out for $68. Just got lucky they had one left.

Good you asked. Very simple and important to know this. Remove the KEY from the fob and insert it in the receptacle above the license plate, turn the key and the trunk will open. Next, locate the cable in the trunk and pull it to open the door. there is also a cable there to open the gas tank door.

I use these and there was a forum vendor on here who sells these (can't remember which one after all these years) but they are excellent in protecting key fob and come in many different colors.
