I have a 2012 GS manual, so a trunk mounted battery. The Delco 2-year battery that had been in the car for 4 years (just bought the car in May) was completely dead this morning after using the car yesterday and having it on the float charger. Whatever, it's old, that's not my concern. I'm just glad it died in my garage. So now I have a Super Start 2-year battery from O'Reilly and the vents on it are oval. I adapted to fit the vent tube and plugged the + side port. Also had to make a new hold-down to fit the bigger battery. I noticed that the old battery wasn't plugged on the + side. My M3 battery is plugged on the opposite side of the vent tube and I'm pretty sure my Cobalt's is, too. You're supposed to plug the side you aren't using the vent tube on, right? Otherwise, what's the point of the tube?
Here's a pic of the Redline shift and ebrake boots I put on last night because I don't want to start a new thread about just this.
Also you can find them on eBay new for $70 something.
Looks like I hi-jacked your thread. Hopefully someone helps out with your battery question. Imo, I would plug the vent hole that you are not using. The whole point of the vent tube is for it not to vent into the cab.

It seems like a stupid question, but I figured I'd ask since the old battery wasn't plugged. I was kind of bugged at the parts store and told the guy that they shouldn't list batteries in their system that don't fit the stock vent tube or hold-down.
Update on the battery. I was thinking about the battery in my Cobalt and wondered why it wouldn't work in my Corvette. So I looked up that PN and it does say it works in the 2010, 2011, and 2013 Grand Sports. WTF? Why not 2012? It must be an application guide error. So I swapped my Cobalt battery into the GS and it was perfect. I just went to the parts store and traded in the wrong battery for the right one. For your information, the Super Start 85PRM battery at O'Reilly will show as "best fit" for the 2012 GS, but it's WRONG. You want the 90PRM. Everything fits perfectly.
Yes, plug the opposite vent hole. All the new ones I have installed had a bag with the vent barbed fitting and a plug in a plastic bag taped to the battery. Napa was the last one I installed, a couple of weeks ago in my Z06
I believe the GS uses two different batteries depending on where the battery is located. One type for the under the hood cars, like the automatics and convertibles. And another size for the battery in the hatch cars.

Good point. Mine is a manual trans coupe. So it's in the trunk.

Yeah, this one came with a plug and elbow for the vent.
When I was in the market for a new battery for my manual GS (Internet or in person), I just said I had a ZO6. Seems like most of the battery look up catalogs do not have a manual/auto distinction for the GS.
