I'm in Clinton TWP, Michigan and drive my 2008 C6 coupe through the Winter w/Blizzaks and a trimmed front air dam. Never had an issue over the last 8 years! Life is too short to drive something you don't enjoy half the time!!
Enjoy,

If winters are cold where you live but relatively snow-free, get a set of Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 3+ tires. Their rubber compound will give you good grip down to single digits and below. If you get snow deeper than about 3", stay home.
You said the "W" word twice and you know full well we only have 3 seasons here. Springfall lasts from Nov through Feb, then Summer from Mar through May, then HOT from June through Sept and back to a short Summer again for the month of Oct.
It has been a bit warmer than normal this year. HOT usually only has 18 days of 110+ and we're already at day 22 with more expected in the 10 day forecast. The lack of a monsoon is the problem.
Sounds similar to the Houston area, only with less humidity.

Where is it cold but relatively snow free? Not trying to be a dick, just wondering hah. Everywhere I think of being cold, like down to freezing temps gets at least some decent snow. I know places in TX and GA will get a little bit here or there but will be relatively snow free and temps much higher than freezing.
Ha, I bought a new '68 Camaro; what a shock the first time I drove it in snow -- it was worthless.
Actually, my new ‘67 Camaro big block drove great in the winter. Of course, the posi and studded snow tires (legal at the time) helped greatly. That was during the snow years of 18-24 inch snowfalls in SW MI.
I keep thinking a 328xi stick would be a fun daily. How much of a maintenance nightmare has your car been?
I have a 92 corvette, a v8 colorado, and a 05 mini cooper s for winter duty.
For sure a 328i has lower maintenance than the 335, according to my local BMW independent shop. I'm talking the 6 cyl NA, not the more recent 4 cyl turbo 328. I've had a few issues, usually $300 - $500 or so at a time. Water pump, an ignition coil are two that I remember. There are several oil leaks that would cost near $5,000. to fix if I did them all. very minor, so holding off. now. But something to have checked out.
Mine is RWD, not an xi AWD . I elected to get RWD due to a couple factors. One, there are a few extra parts of course and a few of them are have been reliability issues. Second, some other maintenance or repair work is more expensive as the front drive train can be in the way. A third is that with the sport package the xi only gets sport seats and steering wheel. With RWD also get stiffer suspension and wider wheels. I had a RWD BMW in the past so I went that way.
