^ This. I ordered mine from Crutchfield with the wires pre-wired. They used the crimp connecters and some where too loose for my taste. Ended up pulling it all apart and soldering and taping everything up nice and tight. BTW it's a super easy install. With the that GM (blue box) interface, it's all plug and play. Small hex (can't remember the size), a 7mm socket, and removing a few switches is all it takes.
This winter I may add a rear cam - and maybe a front.
I agree. I don't like wire crimps. I solder everything. May take a little longer and some work but it won't come apart. I installed front and rear cameras as well. My Z is lowered and I did not want to bump anything. The cameras are nice to have and real easy to install and wire up.
I will go with the Kenwood EXcelon Series with two year warranty. Will go with a unit that has the slot for CD/DVD and no moving parts or moving front cover. I'm on the fence about having the GPS navigation built into the Kenwood Unit as that pushes the price way up there and whenever I do need navigation I can use my stand alone GPS Tom Tom or Garmin units that attach to inside of windshield or on a bean bag mount.
I'd do a little research and not count out the the tilting front cover before you buy. The Excelon that I have has IIRC an capacitive touch screen and they have an annoying glare on the screen. I found (and gnawbone above also found) that you can completely eliminate that glare by tilting the screen, I have mine tilted up one notch and it's perfect, no glare at all. And I don't move it that much, I have a memory card in the slot with all my music, don't use CD's or DVD's so I hardly ever open it. I also ordered online a screen protector , I think it was $16 for two, I put that on too. A little bit of a bear to get all those air bubbles out, I screwed up the first one, I guess that's why they give you 2, Re: the cameras, being an old heavy equipment operator I've learned to use my mirrors to back up but I LOVE the front camera, pull right up to those parking lot blocks and never touch it. I've hit them a few times in the past. A Buddy of mine has a body shop and he's gonna paint the underside of the front bumper cover for me. And Re: the wires, I think it was $25 from Crutchfield to get the pre-wired harness, best $25 I ever spent, made everything plug and play, only wires I cut were the power and ground wires to connect the cameras. And thanks to all here on the Forum who helped with my install, answered all my question and posted pictures to make a seemingly difficult job very easy. I can honestly say it's a pleasure listening to the new unit and all the bells and whistles make it a plus!

That's pretty slick. I didn't know that you can use memory cards (SD micro chips?) which would eliminate the DVD/CD feature maybe bringing cost of multi-media unit down. All of this must involve the use of a computer. So it sounds to me that you can adjust the level of the front screen to combat the glare. On all of this I'm not into the latest electronics and am still learning about all of this SD cards, smartphone music etc. Just never had much of an interest until cassettes disappeared as I used to record my own music from CD to metal tapes for listening to music in car to the kinds of songs I like and the order I want to listen to them in. I really do need a front camera so I don't take out my radiator brackets and license plate again.

On the front end of my Corvette I have a custom front end cover with wire mesh screen to protect condenser. Will this front end cover block or interfere with the install of a front camera for parking?
