It took me 16-20 hrs to correct my black c6 when I bought it. 105 & 205. If it's swirled bad I wouldn't worry much about breaking through the clear. I doubt it has ever been corrected before, should be plenty of clear left. Buy a led shop light to shine on each spot. Tape off a 2x2 or 18"x18" spot with painters tape and stay within the square until you complete that section, then move the tape and light and continue around the car. When finished buy a good ceramic coating and apply it per instructions. Start using a foam cannon and 2 bucket wash system with a grit guard in the bottom.
I bought a foam cannon when I bought the car, works great. I also use an electric leaf blower to dry it. The least amount of actually touching the car the better .
My buddy's C6 is CRM. Such a great color but it shows everything. He owns a detail shop and dreads working on his own paint. But when it looks good... man does it look good.

That doesn’t work on Black. I have a Master Blaster which is 3-4 times more powerful than the highest cfm leaf blower and it leaves small spots all over the ca on a hot day.. Any color other than Black or dark gray is much easier to maintain and surface defects harder to detect.

Then why are you worried about the swirl marks? Next to black red shows more swirl marks than any other color, which is why I spend days working to remove them.
I personally don't think you can get these finishes 100% with a random orbital
Especially with a Porter Cable. They are notorious for not having the torque needed to get those last few swirls out. That's also what has made them so safe for anyone to use. Almost no way to burn the paint with a PC.

I have both, but after getting the car ceramic coated the leaf blower works perfect on my black car.

While our water is generally pretty good it’s heavy in calcium which is where spots come from. I simply can’t get it off fast enough in high temps. I can do better hand drying during those days with my wife’s help. Eventually I’m going the ceramic route and hopefully it helps.

Ok, so we know you have a foam cannon and you use a leaf blower to remove the water from the car. So swirls are induced in a few different ways. The biggest problem is washing and the method used. Next is what is done to the finish in-between washes and also do you use a car cover.
Answer these question and we may see a way to help in the future
Swirl marks were on the Corvette when I bought it. The car stays in the garage, no car cover. Never been in rain. When I wash it its usually just dust. I drive it on the weekends and maybe twice a month to work, weather permitting.

Ok, no cover that answers one question. Now when you wash it do you use a minimum of two wash buckets? Do you have grit guards in the buckets and do you use a good quality wash pad, not a sponge or small towel or items such as that. Are you using a quality car shampoo? As I mentioned earlier most swirls and fine scratches are produced when you wash the car.

I never wash my car with water or soap anymore. A simple drying cloth with a light spray of detailing spray is all you need on most cars that don't see severe weather or environment.
Helps that I have it ceramic coated now, but if you still wash your car with soap and water, you're doing more harm than good. Most water is hard, and most soap strips whatever hard work you put into waxing/coating your car.
It's also conducive to adding more scratches. (Even with a two bucket method.)
I did a 3-4 hour polish with 105 and heavy cut pad, 105 with medium cut pad, then 205 with a medium pad again, then a finishing pad with a griots final stage product , it looked great until I saw it in the sunlight a few days later. 75% of the swirls are gone but a good 25% left
I personally don't think you can get these finishes 100% with a random orbital
You can't. A high speed buffer is best....but you better know how to use it......

Well I do wash mine but not on a weekly schedule. It may be a month or more between washes. I did mention that most swirls are produced from washiong and major swirls cme from imptoper washing. If I happen to get hit a rain shower (I live in Florida and that is a good possiblity) that will bring on a wash. Normally I use Adams Waterless Wash or Adams Detail Spray.
To be clear, it doesn't really matter what you use to wash or dry your vehicle. When you touch it with anything, you are creating swirl marks. No touchy, no swirls. Yeah, rocket science.
