Is there a technical/fitment reason the A6 didn't have the dry sump, or is it just one of those things?

My Z51 2007 coupe has dry sump system, at least it says so on sticker. Some controversy about this though.

Easy enough ti figure out. Open the hood. If there is an oil tank between the fuse box and the firewall on the passenger side then it is a dry sump. No oil tank, no dry sump. It's as simple as that.

I think you're misinterpreting something here. Post your window sticker, and where your battery is located.

Probably but, I didn't have an ls3 at the time so had no interest in the post. I do appreciate the help on this matter.

Also, battery gets moved to the rear hatch area to make room for the dry sump tank in the engine bay.

I have read on the forum that GM wasn't interested in making auto transmission cars dry sump because the transmission wasn't meant for high G duty. So your engine oiling wouldn't be an issue on the track with a dry sump, but your transmission oiling would be.

I suspect the reality is there was limited capacity for engine building at wixom. The dry sump engines were all handmade, and the manual cars are much rarer.

Forged crankshaft in the manual cars with dry sump.
