I'm sitting at work so I don't have access to my OM, but I was wondering if C6's have a check engine oil light that lets you know if you're low on oil?
I don't have mine handy either, but . . . if you cycle through the information tab, one of the things it brings up is oil life, with a percentage for how much "life" is left in it. I've changed mine with 30 to 40 percent remaining because of age (it's gotten a year old), so I don't know if there is a light that comes on when it gets to "0". I used to have a Chevrolet as a company car, and when it got to 5%, the info display showed "change oil soon", when it got to zero it showed "oil change required", but no idiot light came on.

I was more getting at something that would notify you if you got down below 1 quart low. I had this in my C5, but didn't know if the C6 had it or not.

I dealt with that last year Ed. The level sensor and engine oil temp sender is in the side of the oil pan on the wet sump engines. My oil level warning triggered even when my oil level was still in the safe range of the dipstick. My Z-51 equipped car has an engine oil cooler which takes an extra quart to change oil. I put in 5 quarts when changing the oil, then went on freeway and had the low oil warning. When I checked my dipstick is was just below 1/2 way between add and full and I added enough oil to take it to the full mark and the light and warning went out.

My vert has the Z51 package too, and I recently changed my own oil thanks to SixAddict loaning me the use of his garage and lift. This was the first time in about 30 years that I've changed my own oil, and I've been a little more than paranoid about it. I had a burned oil smell the first few days because I did get some oil on my headers, and it's had me paranoid ever since, which is why I was asking about the sensor. I keep meaning to check my oil level, but I keep forgetting to bring a paper towel with me to work so I can check it before I head home for the day.

C'mon. Ed...it's called a dipstick. Pullet (no chicken joke) and see what your oil level is...
