Got into my 2008 vette, put it in reverse, would not move anywhere but reverse, so I killed it in reverse. Took everything apart, fixed gear shift problem. Now my car will not start. Battery is brand new. Everything comes up good, except will not start. I also have new batteries in key FOB.
IIRC there're a couple switches.
Sure you didn't inadvertently dislodge one replacing cable?
Time to open it up, recheck looking for anything out of place.
Hopefully a member will show switch location(s).
Would make this a lot easier knowing where/what to look at vs guessing.
I havent replaced any cable. I push start, gauges power up, stuff clicks, but doesnt start. No clicking from under hood tho. Steering wheel is not locked in place either.
There's a cable on autos which is prone to breaking, thought you were talking about an auto since manual issues are somewhat rare.
If a manual there's at least one switch involved also, if it doesn't 'make/break' car won't start.
Sounds like it (where ever it is) somehow got knocked outa alignment/contact, here again where it's located on MN6 IDK.
Maybe someone else does.
Assuming you car has an automatic transmission, then I believe your car is not actually in park, regardless of what the gearshift indicator says. Also, turning off the car in reverse will not allow the computers to sleep, therefore draining down your new battery.
Does the DIC say Shift To Park" ? If so, then it is likely one of the 2 micro switches located in front of and at the base of the shift lever. Make sure your shift lever is as far forward as possible, Try starting. If it won't start, carefully listen for the click of the 2 micro switches as you move the lever rearward.
Sometimes a new battery can be faulty. Just cause it's new doesn't mean it's holding a charge, taking a charge and is actually good.
Are you sure battery cables are tight?
Happened to me a few times where I thought they were tight but they weren't.
my 08 is an automatic, i did move gear shift to drive just to test this out, and it says put in park to start. I do not hear any clicks, i even tried holding both in by hand, still no start. I have checked all fuses, not one bad. Why is my steering not locked? Does that have something to do with the not starting?
