Default C6 Corvette Project

It's time to start working on the 2007 C6 Corvette. I've been debating whether to upgrade it for a while now or sell it. I finally made up my mind: I'm keeping it and I'm upgrading it. I'm going to be starting off with the suspension. Unlike my C5, with the C6 I am planning on keeping the leaf springs, for now. That means that majority of the process will be in removing the components, cleaning them, eliminating any rust, painting them, and putting them on. Since I am a clean freak, most of the body components will come off, and the Corvette will be thoroughly cleaned.

The headlights will be painted. Although I do like the blue on blue color combination, I think I would prefer them black. Now I have to check and see which finish I like: matte or gloss. I'm debating on whether to gut the interior and redo it with fiberglass or keep it as is with the exception of swapping out the steering wheel and seats. The car already has the Hurst Short Shifter and an in-dash unit, so I don't see the point in upgrading those. Engine upgrades might mirror the C5 project where I take apart everything, properly clean it, replace all of the wear and tear parts, like all the pulleys, belts, gaskets, and some other parts like the timing chain, oil pump, harmonic balancer (crank pulley), cam, and rocker arms. Decisions will have to be made once I get there since I'm thinking about either Supercharging it or Twin-Turbo Charging it. I haven't decided on either yet. But, that will dictate what type of headers I get, as well as a few other engine components.

I'm excited to share this journey with you guys and I hope you stayed tuned.

Introductory Video available now on YouTube.

Those are two bitchin Corvettes. By looking at your avatar I can see I am not alone in my opinion of C5 BSM. So clean with it removed. Never understood why so many of the C5 guys love those things. Perfect wheels as well.

Having a lowered Corvette can be painful every-so-often. Just swapping the car position inside the garage is a process with two lowered Corvettes. The C5 is so low that I had to place boards just to be able to clear the left side of the garage. Once the C6 was in, I used one floor jack to raise the car from the back and slid the ramps underneath the rear tires; I repeated the process in the front. Then I raised the vehicle again and placed the jack-stands underneath the rear and front crossmembers. It's a balancing act but I did the C5 the exact same way. It sat like that for months without any issues. I do like to leave the floor jacks on both sides just to balance the car even more.

Yup, was so happy the in stock '03 AE C5 I bought was spears delete.
Really scrambled C5's lines/ styling even if they supposedly afforded some door protection.

Nice project.
Clearly remember how hot and in demand LB was here, considered somewhat rare.
It's worthy of a serious refreshing.

Orig owner of an '08 Z, recently did new Michelins/shocks/discs and CT 1521 1 pc pads.
Totally awakened chassis, drives like brand new, the MGW shifter didn't hurt either.

Very nice. That's one thing that I wish I could have done back then...buy them brand new. But too young

I'm going to try and do a video for the entire process. It may take some time to record and edit, but hopefully someone finds it useful in the future. Here's the latest video showing the process that I took in placing the C6 on jack-stands.

I feel like I did the same thing with my C5 Corvette build. I got all hyped up and then nothing. It feels like I just enjoy having a project car inside the garage. My son is the one that motivated me to start again. He took his camera and said "it's time to go work on the Corvette. I want to take some pictures."

I recorded some footage of what the suspension components look like for anyone that needs a reference and I took a bunch of photos. I'll try to stitch the video later today and upload it tomorrow. As for the photos, here they are. These are photos of the front passenger suspension components.

Here are the photos of the rear passenger suspension components. If you see anything troubling throughout this build, let me know. Also, if you need photos of anything, let me know and I will go and snap some for you. I think I got majority of the components so far.

Here's some footage of the suspension. From what I can see, the only part that may need to be replaced is the front driver-side CV axle because of the torn boot. What do you guys think?

I just diagnosed my own popping/clicking issue. The axle needs to be replaced. I don’t know why that slipped my mind when I was recording the video.

The Harmonic Balancer will definitely have to be removed. To get a better view of the engine, and so that it's just not in my way anymore, I decided to take the hood off of my C6 Corvette. Pretty straightforward process that takes about 5 minutes with two people. You just need to remove the two 13mm bolts that hold the hood on each side, 4 in total, and take the hood off.

Time to remove the front bumper cover from my C6 Corvette. The process is pretty much identical for 2005-2013 Corvettes.

The tools that you'll need are:
1. 9/32 socket
2. 10mm socket
3. Flathead screwdriver
4. Phillips head screwdriver
5. Torx T15 screwdriver

There are 4 bolts that you'll need to remove from the front of the bumper, right in front of the hood, all 9/32nds. On each side, you'll remove the front Torx screw with your T15 torx screwdriver from both fenders. Underneath the Corvette, you will need to remove 5 bolts (9/32) from each side to take off the scrape guards. Next to each of those is a 10mm bolt that needs to be removed from both sides. Towards the middle bottom, there should be 5 bolts that need to be removed from the bumper cover. Remove the 5 clips that are inside the wheel well that connect to the bumper cover, as well as 1 clip that's right next to it. That will give you access inside the bumper. There are 2x10mm bolts that need to be removed from each side. Disconnect the amber lights and the fog lights and you're ready to remove the bumper cover. You can also push the amber lights out to have even more room. Where the bumper meets the hood, raise the plastic from the 2 clips to dislodge the bumper cover. Close the hood and work the bumper cover off.

The headlights are simple to remove from the C6 Corvette once you have the bumper cover off. With the bumper cover off, remove the remaining Torx T15 screw from each fender (right next to the headlight). From the bottom, remove the 3x10mm screws that are holding the headlight in place. Pull the fender up slightly and push the headlight from the bottom. Wiggle the headlight out and disconnect the 2 wires.
