Hi, looking to upgrade differential gears for stronger bottom end . Looking to go to 4.10's. Have 2006 Base LS2 M6. Not serious racer any more, old street racer from 70's just stop light to stop light now, street tires. Read some posts mostly from 2005 looking for current info if any. one post recommends replacing complete Differential from RPM looks good but is it needed for street? cost $2000+ plus install. any idea of install cost? In Jersey by Tune Time. Other option just have ring and pinion installed. Any recommendations of which brand? and what shops get to install them? Any other things to look at? Probably get CAI and tune when I get t done. Appreciate any info? Thanks
This doesn't answer your question, but you'd be better off going with 3:73's rather than 4:10's for a street car. Best bang for the buck is headers and a tune rather than just a CAI.
Didn't want car louder. and 4.10's really don't make car over geared with 6th gear ratio of .50 om MMS tranny. At 65 mph with stock 3.42 rear car turns aprox. 1500 rpm, with 4.10's will be about 1800 RPM actually should be better at cruising speed. Car dead now at that speed. When I had big block 67 chevell with 4 speed and 4.10's at 60 mph car turned 3000 rpm. At 1800 rpm now car still not close to power range yet and from what I read mileage drop only 1-2 mpg. Looked at cam, headers , supercharger, and this seems to be the best solution to help weak bottom end bellow 4000 rpm to get into power range in street .

I was a street racer in the 70's too and drove a muscle car as a daily driver for 14 years. I was disappointed with our 2007 C6 after we got it since it was a lighter car and had more power than the CJ 428 Cougar Eliminator that I had. It took me a while to get used to the non linear throttle response which is pathetic until probably the last 25% of the throttle pedal travel. I intend to get either a Vitesse or Pedal Commander to correct that issue but even now my totally stock A6 LS2 with a 2.56 rear end that turns 1200 RPM at 60 MPH will rivet you to the seat when you finally hit that sweet spot and harness the power.
yes car has power but by time your into it your do 80mph for racing its fine but jumping out from stop car dead until you reach 4000 rpm. was disappointed car has 400hp and 400 ft/lbs torq. didn't jump like old big blocks then realized back then everyone on street running 4.10's minimum plenty of guy's running 4.56's and 4'88's on streets. had 68 camaro with 427 OC tunnel ram started with 5.13's went to 5.38's was track car but the gears made all the difference
