Default Tire Question

My 2011 GS has Michelin Pilot Super Sport XL tires that were installed by previous owner. They still have very decent tread. Yesterday, I swerved to miss some debris in the road and missed the majority of it. However, I hit a very small piece of something that was obviously sharp and hard because it sliced the inside edge of the left rear tire enough that it's now toast. Barely made it home before it went flat. Saying all of that to ask this: The PSS XL is no longer made and was replaced with the PS4S. Would it cause a problem if I replaced the PSS XL on the left rear with a PS4S w/o replacing the right rear.
Let me know what you think.

Replacing all 4 would be best although if that is not an option I would at least replace the pair.

I would say it depends on how much tread is left on the tire on the opposite side. If it's near full, then no, it wouldn't hurt anything to replace just the one, but if it's got a decent amount of wear on it, I would replace both sides. I don't see any need to replace all 4 tires as the previous poster suggested. That's just a waste of money. Rear tires wear much faster than fronts so it's very common to replace just the rear tires when they get worn, and to leave the fronts until they reach the wear point.

I don't have a problem mixing brands or types on different axels, for street use, but;
I would replace one tire with a different type tire on the same axel only if in an emergency, and only long enough to get a matching tire for the remaining tire on the axel.

That said,. If this is just the new version of the same tire you had,and your tread life is still significant, then I personally wouldn't worry for normal street use.

Replacing all 4 tires is a bit of overkill when only a single rear tire is damaged. Some say mixing tires is a bad thing and I sort of agree, at the very least in your scenario I would simply replace the rear two tires only.

Always a good idea to purchase tires from Costco. You get a road hazard warranty, and should you damage one and it is no longer available, they will replace both, you'll only pay for the tread used on the damaged tire, the mate is no charge. If it was an all wheel drive Subaru, you'd get 3 for freee.

If you can find a Costco that will put tires on a Corvette. There are two near me and neither of them are willing to put tires on any Corvette.
