Default Insurance

Just switched insurance on my C6 Corvette from my regular insurance type policy to Hagerty Insurance dropping the price from about $800 a year to about $400 a year. The coverage is for a stated amount of $38,000 with zero deductible. The stipulations are: can’t be a daily driver and low mileage, I drive mine 1k-2k a year. If it sounds like something you might be interested in, check with your insurance agent to get the particulars for your insurance situation, might save you some $$$$.

i was always told that when they say "can't be a daily driver" they include like "can't ever use it as an extra car" I heard a story where somebody had a claim denied because they got hit in a grocery store and Haggerty said that running errands constitutes daily driver.

when coupled with all of the other discounts I get through having one insurer insure everything (home, auto, life, etc.) I don't pay much more than you do for a 2008 and I can drive it anytime I want year round for any purpose (save those called out in the exclusions)

Just went through this yesterday with Geico. I pay $44/mth to insure my 2008 Z06 for up to 5,000 miles per year. I did put the deductible at $1,000. Anything under that I am comfortable paying out of pocket. Corvette Museum was about $80/mth for similar coverage.

I always enjoy these friend of a friend stories... they are always bullshit, but they are fun to toss into a conversation.

I have several specialty cars insured under various agreed value policies. What I can tell you is that if you search around an select the proper policy the coverage is always much better and cheaper then your daily driver insurance. But best of all the specialty insurance companies are 100 times easier to work with when you actually have a claim. You also need to check around as agreed value is a boutique industry and not a one size fits all. The costs, coverage and restrictions vary widely.

FWIW - All my specialty cars have a sentence stating I'm covered on test drives, among numerous other things, which would cover a test drive to the grocery store. To not be considered a daily driver requires that every insured driver in the house have a DD insured to them, at least that's the rule where I'm currently insured. YMMV

I did!

I bought the car last month in Shreveport, LA and drove it back to Ohio, up I-65, right by the NCM so I had to stop. While I was at the museum I went into the NCM Insurance office and talked to Adam.

Great guy! Very helpful.

I can drive it 6,000 miles per year and drive it to work 2 days a week.

I had receipts for all the upgrades that have been done to it, supercharger, built trans and diff etc. and we agreed on an insured value well in excess book value and well in excess of what I paid for the car.

For the first 6 months the insured value is the amount I paid and then it increases to the agreed value.

Adam was great!!! Very knowledgeable and very helpful. I left with an in force policy.

Hagertys sux and so does Grundys. Hey second post and all. I use American Modern for my 68 Camaro. As long as I don’t run errands in it I am covered for $100k I can take it to dinner or cruise in it. Both of the previous mentioned, would not insure me that way. If the car was closer to original or a stock offshoot like an SS or RS the coverage would have been better. My 68 is A highly modified restomod

Similar situation here. I insured it via my regular carrier when I purchased the car, but once I started modding it, I immediately went to an agreed upon policy. Adam at NCM was the best rate and best coverage for my needs, and least restrictive comparatively, and I shopped it around. I have it covered at what I've put in it (ie supercharger, among several additional mods), can drive is 6K miles per year (I put on about 4K - 5K) and can drive it to work twice per week. And, can drive it to run errands too. I'll be sticking with NCM insurance.

My $.02.

As I stated you have to check around to see which company fits your needs better and every specialty car is different. I recently switched my 70 Corvette from American Modern to Hagerty. Hagerty was actually a little more but the coverage and deductibles were much better.

So did Hagerty and Grundy actually suck for a legitimate reason... or... was their premium and coverage just not as good on the particular car you were insuring? That's a big difference.

it was the particular car. It was originally a 6cyl. car and now has a fuel injecred 582 Merlin in it. Half car, with coil overs all the way around. All leather interior. Around 800hp. They stated, if the car had less HP and closer to stock the terms would be different. I think it was the amount it was insured for as well. It was appraised at higher than 100k.

How did you get a quote that low? I put in pretty much the same options with Hagerty and I get a quote of $1400 for a year.

Not trying to pile on, but I agree with this...For example, I have an American Modern policy on my 2005 and I pay $447 per year with an agreed-to value of $23k. I know states/cities play a significant role in the price of insurance, but dang, $15k more coverage ($38 vs $23k) for less money?

I’m at $575 with an agreed value of $37k. 3000 mile policy. Found NCM to be about $70 less than Heacock. Both placed policy with American.

Read that policy and read it again ,and if you are happy sign for it and keep it because low costs mean something was left out?

Have Grundy now on my 2d Vette. They beat hell out of Hagerty with better coverage. My 01 Z06 was totalled last fall, and they handled everything. Kept them for my 05 Z51. Value is $22k, $559 a year. Got an NCM quote that was slightly lower but too many restrictions. Will stay with Grundy.
