I have a colleague that has a base 2005 C6 and he has encountered the shift cable breaking. His A4 will not change gears, is stuck in park, and he had determined the culprit is the shift cable. Does anyone have the part number readily available? He is not much for technology, hence the reason I'm asking on his behalf. Thanks in advance.
Get it here, https://www.cultragfactoryparts.com/ Forum Vendor, but does the shifter move easily, or is is stuck in Park. If stuck in park it is not the cable. If it moves easily, has he checked the cable grommet at the shifter and the transmission? They are more likely the issue unless he has replaced them lately.

Is he certain it is the shift cable? I believe the gear shift lever will shift from park with a broken cable, but fail to "select" positions for engagement (the lever will feel unattached and move very easy through the selector). You friend may be experiencing the dreaded "stuck in park" issue instead.

When my 05 cable broke, the shifter moved freely, but wasn't engaging any gears. we stuck in neutral with shifter free!
The shift cable for the 05 cars has been discontinued and is no longer available from GM or any one else.Time for your friend to find a new car
Where do you guys get this **** from??? They are available from multiple source for under $100. I know Ekkler has them.
I can make you a promise that any common part that is often replaced will be available on the C6 for at least the next 50 years so long as someone can make a couple bucks off it.

I just had mine replaced a few months back. had it done in a day. So the part is available.
Things change in a few months.Call any GM dealer or warehouse and they all claim there are no cables available
Dude... your defending an indefensible position... everyone is telling you the shift cables have always been available, you just had to know where to look... Yeah, we all get it the GM supply chain dried up... but suppliers immediately stepped up when there was a dollar to be made.
The cables have always been available from the numerous companies who build custom motorcycle cables. That is one of the best items of this forum is you can find a solution to just about any problem... just ask.
What part about not available do you not understand?Got email from Cultrag saying they are not available from GM.You would be sitting on the side of road some where for a long time before Cultrag sends you one
