Does the splitter on this car have any real purpose except to shield the front bumper from damage on speed bumps or driveway entry/exit?
If the driveway or speed bump is at a severe angle, believe me, the splitter will do nothing towards saving the front bumper from damage. The splitter is somewhat flexible, and you would need the splitter to be made of substantial material to prevent bumper damage.
The front splitter on a GS, Z06 and ZR1 are there not only for looks but provide down force at higher speeds. Note that the base C6 does not come with a front splitter as a standard feature.

Perhaps the ZR1’s, but not the cheap plastic piece that came with the GS or the Z06 from the factory, they don’t have enough lip.

I took mine off about a year ago, and have been in the low 180's a few times, and never noticed any difference in interstate handling, even on high crosswind days.
I literally did it back to back the same day, when comparing on and off. Here's the thing, you have to lay low a few days after you get crazy like this, or you will end up in jail. Meaning the next couple weeks there were smokies all over that stretch of the road.
Even on the Daytona speedway on HDPE days, I could not go that fast before braking.
And no one notices that it is not on the car either.
