I installed a spring at the trunk latch to lift the trunk lid so you can get your hand under it. That's easier then trying to jam your fingers under it to get it open. It is not the best looking thing but it seems to work. I'll keep an eye on it to see if it comes loose but I think it will be fine. Why GM did not make something similar I can't imagine. It might have cost them another penny to have that there.
Is the picture with your hand before or after you installed the spring? The second picture (with hand) looks like the lid opens as much as mine does without a helper spring. Just curious. Glad it is working for you.
The picture with my hand is after the install of the spring. Before the install the lid would only open about 1/8 on an inch and you had to hold the open button on the remote while jamming your fingers into the crack to get it open.

That tells me your latch mechanism is worn out. Mine opens about as much as your does with the spring added.
