What just happened? I was doing some spirited driving thru some split S curves close to where I live. I pulled into the local gas station, filled up the tank and drove off. I suddenly got a “ service traction control system” Lost power to the engine. I limped home a mile or so, pulled it in the garage, I was kinda stunned. After a few minutes restarted the car and the message disappeared and the engine ran normally. I did not drive the car just started it.
What happened and what should I do? Think it was a wheel speed sensor or a engine problem? plug wire ? Drive it and see what happens again? Flat bed it to the dealer?
Please no negative or hateful responses. I just want some personal guidance from knowledgeable Forum members.
Thanks Ron
I would drive it and see if it happens again. These cars seem to have a lot of electronic gremlins. What you have to remember is the C6 is the generation where Chevrolet started putting more microprocessors in the car - about 20. They were getting ready for the C7 which has around 70 microprocessors in it that control most of of the performance upgrades of that generation.
I call these problems with the C6 gremlins. I had some electronic issues that were just bothersome on my 09. I replaced the battery because it needed it and the gremlins went away. Your issue may not be anything major and there are plenty of people in this forum who have a lot of DIY experience on these cars.
Did it crank slow when you restarted it at gas station ? I had that happen a couple times to me, car was hot didnt sound like it was going to restart but did, but traction control light on, engine rpm gauge didnt work and had engine miss. got home let sit till cool started right up everything was normal. Happened several times to me, then I took to dealer, they replaced starter. No more problems 2013 427.
My problem was an intermittent connection to the wheel speed sensor, but the cause was self-induced. When reinstalling the rear suspension I had wound the speed sensor wires partially around the E-brake cable. I unplugged the wires from the sensor and matched the full length to run parallel (using the standoffs) to the E-brake. Then plugged it back in and all was fine after that.
Now maybe it was just a connection problem or maybe was the dielectric grease I used (I always put grease on the little rubber sealing fins of my connectors) but it fixed the problem. As said above it would not hurt to check the simple things first.
Looked at the easy things and found out the “service traction” warning was caused by the No 5 plug wire had come loose from the coil pack. It had been coming off for a while because it had been arcing inside the boot. Cleaned it up and stuck it back on and back to normal. Seems like a lot of alarms and codes for a simple plug wire. Oh well I am good to go...
