good day to all. newbie looking for some help. this year i purchased a 2006 base model vette, auto, radio/cd/dvd nav. took the radio out today with intentions to go buy a new unit(kenwood) today. never got out of the garage. now sitting on a completely dead vette got the old radio out. as far as i know i did not make contact with metal surfaces and live wires. no emergency flashers, no fobs able to do a task, no lights anywhere. there was a good battery in the car this morning and it is still there but you wouldn't know it. have not found any bad fuses in either area - engine and pass. foot well. i screwed up somewhere but now i'm lost. sorry. the more i tried to keep it short, the longer it got. something like that.
Welcome to the forum. According to the electrical schematics for an 06, the fuse and Nav system schematics have no tie to any starting circuits.
I would suspect a low main battery as #1 cause, I you have a cell phone next to your FOB, that could well prevent a start sequence. It has happen to me in my 06 by having the cell close to or in the same pocket as the FOB.
The other cause may be a low battery in the FOB itself. That can be proven by inserting the FOB in the slot inside the glove box compartment and try a start.
Good Luck, and report back if you find the solution for future references,
Also, you shouldn't be working on electrical components (removing the factory radio/installing a new unit) without disconnecting the battery. Assuming that you did do this initially, did you remember to reconnect it when trying to start, emergency flashers, and the like?
What NB said, innocent mistakes while working on electricals can be costly.
6 electronics are sensitive & easily spaz, if bad enough looking at serious $ to make right. Always disconnect.
Hope it turns out to be a simple fix, update w/ solution.
thanks to all for the battery disconnect reminder. never to old to learn and in my case, to be reminded. and being less than a week old to this site, i haven't got the in's and out's figured yet. so if it seems i'm being slow and ignorant with my responses, it's just rookie mistakes finding where i left off. o6 is up and running after a battery charge and a better tightening job on the pos terminal than the previous owner had done. picked up a new kenwood ddx9707s today to replace original. spkrs., camera's, etc to follow. will be at it again tonight just as soon as i disconnect the battery. thanks all.
