Default Sticky stuff

Trying to find the sticky black tar like stuff that is on inside of door panels to hold the plastic vapor barrier on , think it is a Butyl product ? it stays soft & sticky for years ,, what is it, where can you buy it ?

My '67 Firebird used stuff they called "dum dum putty" to seal kick panels, door panels, etc. Even after 50 years it is still soft & tacky

thanks, this stuff GM uses is black and real sticky , stays sticky for ever, hard to get off your hands ,

The adhesive used to set back glass in sedans is very similar

It's called Butyl Tape, dum dum, or strip caulk. Any auto parts store should have it in stock.

Like others said, butyl tape. You can find it at Home Depot and Lowes also.

The other stuff that is similar is acoustical sealant for vapor barrier in homes. In Canada, it is sold under LePage PL Acousti-Seal
It seals vapor barrier poly to wood or steel framing, Reduces sound transmission, Remains flexible under extreme low temps,
excellent adhesive and water resistant.
