You could always take the lid down to a local upholsterer and have them add some cushioning to the existing cover, or you could find an aftermarket one that you like.

I'd thought about the local upholsterer. This post was to see what aftermarket options are out there and reviews of them. It is hard to tell what they will be like on a web page.

Have you thought about having a custom one made? You could contact Ridies and have them make one for you. They made mine, and I added some padding to it when I installed it. I'm on my work computer right now, but I can post a picture later on of what it looks like.
I've got to find a way to cushion the center console lid or replace it with one that is cushioned. Any ideas?

Of course, there are a number of vendors that sell a cushioned console lids. (zip, west coast etc. probably even amazon)
But since you asked for "ideas" how about this. Get some foam cushion in the thickness you want and trim to size. Stretch some high quality leather over the cushion and console lid and glue on the underside. Then hide the glue and edges with the plastic cover that is already on the underside of the console lid.

You've never seen my upholstery work. I built a whole airplane and the worst looking thing on it were the seats.

LOL, you've never seen mine either. But my successes with leather on a center console of a GT6+ was near perfect. Of course, in my opinion. Give it shot. There is nothing to lose except a few bucks and time. You can always buy a new console cover. BTW... If you don't want to do it yourself, from what I've read, I would go with Corvette Ed's opinion and Ridies
I purchased a cushioned cover that slips over the existing one, held on by the screws ion the underside plastic piece, as the leather
folds under it.
I have had it on since 2011 and it still looks great. I have the two tone as per the attached link https://www.rpidesigns.com/shop/item.aspx?itemid=1239
Pics as promised. I didn't use a whole lot of cushion; it's just enough that my elbow doesn't get bruised when I have it resting on the lid for extended periods.Of course with Ridies you can make any custom pattern you want. You can see in the red stripe on the console lid where the leather is a little bunched up from the padding, but once it got enough sun that all went away, and it's perfectly smooth now. This pic was taken just a couple days after I installed the entire interior in the car.
I think you can still get oem console doors and 12's and 13's are padded...also vendors here that sells them along with pads to go on like others are saying....Check with Gene Cully on the oems...
