Hey guys, I have been searching and can't find any answers. I am wanting to remove the mufflers on my 06 convert and go straight pipe to see how I like it. How is this done? Is there a kit I can buy or will I need to take to a shop? Thanks for any help.
The mufflers are easy to remove a shop can do it but the exhaust tips are going to be a chore. It would be easier to get straight pipe an axel back that you could install yourself. There is also a muffler mod I’m sure someone can link to that is cheaper.
I had a muffler shop cut mine out. $275.00 with new 3 inch tips. I admit it is loud but with my BTR stage 3 cam it sounds great and people compliment me all the time.
My first choice for the no-muff exhaust would be these: https://www.carid.com/2008-chevy-cor...parentsubmodel=ENGINE|6.2L
$720 isn't bad with the work all done and resonators.
Yes, you can go to a GOOD muffler shop for the job!
Your car is the 05-08 exhaust direct bolt on, even though the '08 is diff motor!
A good muffler man can make you a set, like jorge / tex said, the chore (time) in all the welding / cutting and adding the four outlets, if your want them. It might be getting close to the direct bolt-on price with some added resonators to help with drone-ness. Actually they work great, not as loud as you would think w/stock motor, if you keep your foot out of it. And a lot lighter.

I recently purchased from a forum member a spare set of Z06 mufflers, cut them open and did the youtube muffler mod. Swapped them with the Z06 mufflers I added to my base model and am pleased with the added tone and louder (no drone) exhaust note. With the npp closed it retains the factory level sound (wife is happy) but open really wakes up the exhaust. Very pleased with having the best of both worlds.
I might have a customer getting rid of his straight pipes in a few months if you can wait.
Corsa Xtreme is also a great option with similar volume to straight pipes without the drone associated with cutting out mufflers. I'm doing holiday deals if you're interested in going that direction.

I've done it. A shop will basically just cut off your OEM mufflers and then bend a new tube and weld from there. There is drone to it so you better be ok with it. Under very very light load there is hardly any drone.
I am planning to do this also. Only difference is I want that pipe to be clamped on both ends just in case I want to go back and add the mufflers. Just need to save. Exhaust shop was gonna charge me $500 for removing mufflers and adding straight pipe.

Don't over-think this. Remove your current mufflers w/included over-the-axle pipe and set them aside. Your OEM pipe/mufflers can sit in your garage unmolested until you want to return the car to stock. Then simply buy used muffler/over-the-axle pipes and let the muffler shop cut off the mufflers and weld in a connecting pipe and new tips of your choice. Much less initial expense and easier to swap back later. If you decide to go back to stock, you'll also be able to sell the straight pipes to someone else who wanted to do the same thing. If you like the straight pipes forever, you can sell the OEM ones.
I'd sell my straight pipes with 4" tips for $100 (that I only used for a couple months on my '08) for local pickup or if you handle/pay the packaging/shipping.
