Just got a quote back from a local glass repair company.
$1500 for glass
$1000 weatherstripping he said needs to be replaced due to being 12 years old
First off gm glass is $768 straight from gm. My question is about the weatherstrip mounding. Does it need to replaced when doing a windshield and if so does anyone have the part number? Thanks
I had the windshield replaced on my 2007 by Safelite and they never said a word about then gasket. In and out of my garage in about an hour. No leaks. No wind noise. No up-sell at all.
Ted ... I wouldn't worry about the cost. Your Comp insurance should pay for everything, minus the deductible ... And companies such as Safelite find ways that you may not even have to pay the deductible.

You do have insurance ?
Yea I have insurance it's $0 glass. My issue was the quote was so high my insurance would deny it. He basically doubled the cost of the glass and added another $1k for a seal that apparently i don't need.
Call Safelite and don't screw around with some local 'never heard of' company ...
I'd love to, but I had safelite do a windshield about 10 years ago and scratched my hood to the point it needed a repaint. My concern is having a tech that doesn't care vs someone that has years of experience.
$2500 to replace a windshield in a Vette? What have others paid? I had a windshield in a Hyundai replaced for $200. I understand a Vette is a different car but..........wow.
I have to look at my policy, I thought comprehensive covered the glass with $0 deductible.
What year and options ? There is a big difference between a HUD/Onstar windshield and a "standard" one.
Interestingly, according to this there is barely a different between HUD & non-HUD?
Now I will say the cost of glass has gone up substantially this year, whether legitimately or not. We had to replace the windshield in our ‘16 Outlander for the 2nd time & using the same guy, the cost was double. He showed me his invoice for the windshield and his cost had doubled.
I also found an 8” crack in the outer pane of a small bathroom window upstairs due to hail & called 4 different window/glass companies who all gave me a ridiculous price to replace the single pane of class - about $400 for a 21x18” pane of glass. We had had much larger (3x) full windows replaced previously for only $159. Each company just said “prices are up due to covid”.

I had my HUD windshield replaced with a non HUD windshield and I cannot see any difference. I read many reports on here that said the same thing so I gave it a shot. HUD looks the same on a standard windshield.
Last time I replaced the windshield was between $500-$600 with a local company. It was an OEM HUD glass (made by AP Technoglass) without the GM logo. You may consider replacing the weatherstripping if your cars sits outside a lot.
I had Safelite replace the windshield on my '07 Vert. It ran about $1200 installed. The original trim/seal did not have to be replaced although for full disclosure, the car only had about 24K miles on the clock and is always garaged. I asked the shop to use the non-HUD glass, but they said that if they didn't use the appropriate glass (i.e., HUD-compatible) tied to the VIN, they would not guarantee the install. The price delta was less than $300 so I just went with the flow to get the job done.

HUD works fine with regular glass. Many people here have had it done, with zero problems. If there is someone out there who replaced a HUD windshield with non-HUD glass, and had a problem, please step forward.
Never said I'm going to the guy who quoted me. I asked if I need to have the window seal replaced while doing the windshield.
I just talked to a friend that owns a glass shop and he said prices have gone up due to supply limitations. He said there are price gougers. As for the weather strip he said he typically would not replace unless it appears aged/dry/damaged. He said some folks rip the old weather strip out as they don't want air/water leak complaints.
